Abdul Mari Asia Imao
- Born in January 16 1936 in Siasi, Sulu
- He was a Filipino painter and sculptor
- He was named as National Artist of the
Philippines for sculpture in 2006
- Aside from being a sculptor, Imao is also a
painter, photographer, ceramist, cultural
researcher, documentary film maker, writer
and a patron of Philippine Muslim art and
culture
- Abdul Mari Asia Imao studied at the University of
the Philippines in Diliman, Quezon City and
graduated with the degree of Bachelor of Fine Arts
in Sculpture
- Guillermo Tolentino and Napoleon Abueva
preceded him as National Artist
- In 1963, Imao received the New York Museum of
Modern Art grant to Europe and Scandinavia
becoming the first Asian Recipient of the grant
- in 2017, Imao won Special Citation in the 2017
Metrobank Art and Design Excellence national
competition.
