Kaleb likes to Mop
Recently, I held an amusing and memorable conversation with my son, who began kindergarten
this year, on the subject of mopping. My 5 year old son, Kaleb, claimed my Swiffer mop as his
own, and he enjoys mopping my kitchen and hardwood floors. Last summer, while I was
watching him eagerly mop my floors, he suddenly exclaimed, “I’m just like a janitor!” Amused,
and somewhat surprised at his thoughtful comparison, I smiled and answered, “Yes, you are
like the school janitor Mr. Bruce.” Immediately, a bright smile came to his face, and he agreed
with obvious pride and delight, “Yes, I am like Mr. Bruce.” Then I told him that maybe
someday, when he was a bigger boy like his brother, he could help Mr. Bruce mop the floors at
school. Upon hearing that, he told me excitedly, “I’m going to help Mr. Bruce at school; I could
be the one to mop the hallways”. Meanwhile, Kaleb put his mop away and moved on to his next
activity. I assumed he would forget about our conversation. Later, on the first day of
kindergarten, I was listening to Kaleb’s brother help him prepare his backpack, making sure he
had the pencils, erasers, and supplies he needed on his first day of school, when I overheard
Kaleb say earnestly, “Should I take my mop?” My older son and I refrained from laughing so
we wouldn’t embarrass him, and told him gently that no; he wouldn’t be needing his mop
today. My heart warmed, and I wished that moments like those could remain in my heart
forever; but sadly, memories fade and little boys grow up. Maybe someday when he is a bigger
boy, Kaleb will help Mr. Bruce mop the school hallways, but in the meanwhile he'll have to be
satisfied with helping his Mom mop floors at home.

DESCRIPTION
As I stand on the front porch of my cabin, a soft smell of sage drifts in
my face, while I gaze in the distance. Off to the right is a narrow
valley, crawling with willow brush so thick you need a machete to
walk through it. As I look at the ravine running north and south an
echo of water draining into water creeps towards me. Around the hill at
the south end is a pond, and at the north end sets a little old calving
shed surrounded by aspen trees. Across from me is an enormous
football shaped alfalfa field screaming green, and beyond that rests
another huge aspen grove. Just off to the left is a mountain coated in
evergreens whisping in the breeze. At the base of the mountain, is a
massive a-frame cabin with large triangular windows stretching to the
eve. Further to my left is a spring trickling down the hill, into a man-
made pond the size of a hockey rink. This overflows into a tiny creek
that ripples directly down the slope behind me into the pond on my
right, which is making the echo up the ravine. Staying up at my cabin
gives me a real sense of relaxation.
INFEDTINOI
DEFINITION
Synonym is explaining the term by using the words that
mean the same thing.
EXAMPLE: To procrastinate is to slack.
Class is when you put your topic in a larger category to
explain your term.
EXAMPLE: A pineapple is a tropical fruit that has an acidic
and sweet taste.
Negation means that the write first says something is not,
and then says what it is.
EXAMPLE: A snowcone is not an ice creamcone, but rather
a shredded ice and syrup treat.
Racism
A racist is not some one that accepts another person for who they are,
but rather pre judges them based on their appearance or their skin
color. The vast diversity of society makes it nearly impossible to
eliminate all racial tension. A racist usually has no other reason to
hate somebody except for the fact that the other person may look
different or have a different skin color than them. In the long run,
racists are only hurting themselves because they are limiting their
knowledge of different cultures and people and they are not
broadening their horizons. Racists are extremely closed minded
individuals and they strictly adhere to their own set of beliefs and
morals without any regard for other people's belief systems. Racists
are too selfish and not open minded enough to accept people for the
way they are.

Religion
The beliefs and practices known as religion can cause unity or
contention, can hold many things in common while promoting
very different values, can be as simple as the Golden Rule or
complex as tradition allows. The Abrahamic religions- Islam,
Christianity, and Judaism- all share a common father,
Abraham. Nevertheless, the teachings of each religion vary to
such a degree that many wars and conflicts have been fought
between them. Nevertheless, most religions, from the
Abrahamic beliefs to eastern religions such as Hinduism and
Buddhism, promote loving others, living moral lives, and
working toward the benefit of humanity.
For ten years, I taught public school. Aside from the kid
who ruined my carefully-planned lessons by making
animal sounds, nothing bothered me more than the
language of educators; the jargon and clichés and
euphemisms found in school brochures. Take, for
example, The Parent and Student Middle School Guide
from Region Nine, which governs fourteen schools in
Manhattan.

EFFECT
Effects of Alcohol
Letting alcohol take control over your life has many negative effects on a person and
the people around them. One important effect is the damage you can do to your body.
Drinking can lead to severe illness and even eventual death; some health
consequences to consider might be liver disease, kidney failure and, for pregnant
women, the loss of their unborn child. Another detriment is that an addiction could
lead to drinking and driving; possibly causing a fatal car accident for either yourself
and/or an innocent by stander. Another concern to consider is the relationships alcohol
can destroy. Alcohol abuse can have very serious affect on a person’s temperament,
which can lead to spousal and even child abuse. Alcohol often is the number one
cause in divorce and spending time in jail. It can also affect relationships outside of
the family; many people have lost life long friends whether it is due to foolish
arguments and behavior or possibly death. Lastly, drinking has negative effects on
self-esteem and rational thinking. People become more self-centered, develop low
self-esteem, doing things or behaving in ways that they would not normally. They
have little or no regard to the outcomes of what is said or done when they grow reliant
on getting that alcohol high. The negative effects of alcohol abuse are overwhelming
when considering the many consequences that drinkers and the people around them
have to deal with.

SOLUTION
Deforestation is a serious problem because forest and trees are not
just pretty to look at, they do an important job making the earth´s
environment suitable for life. They clean the air, store water,
preserve oil, and provide homes for animals. They also supply
food, fuel, wood products, and paper products for humans. In the
past fifty years, more than half of the world´s rainforests have been
destroyed. Today, the forest of the world are being deforestation
continues, the world´s climate may change, floods may become
more common, and animals will die.
One solution to the problem of deforestation is to use less paper. If
you use less paper, fewer trees will be cut for paper making.

Laughter the Medicine
Laughter is one of the greatest healing devices known to man. Laughter is powerful
and can help people in many different ways. It has the power to cure something as
little as a bad day or to heal the wounds of a terminally ill person. Laughing has
helped create the smile which is the universal sign of well being. Generally,
individuals who do not laugh live miserably and have unhappy lives. Dr. Robert
Holden found out that smiling and laughing releases endorphins in the brain which
gives people a overall happy well being. Using comedy, many doctors have
stimulated the healing process in manic depressants and fatally ill patients giving
them hope and ambition. In many clinics laughter is being used in replacing anti
depressants and reduces the need for pain killers.(Dr. Gael Crystal). Take comedians
for example, they usually live long and happy lives. Putting a smile on faces and
laughs in souls is what makes life complete. Laughter helps heal people and
brightens spirits for a better and healthier life . Laughing is a sign of joy and hope
and keeps people normal and the world happy. Using the techniques of laughter and
happiness is the best medicine known to man. Laughter is the universal sign of well
being and happiness within health. Laughing brightens the spirit and heals the mind
and body of people who allow it to overcome them. So try a smile and laugh on for
size and live a longer happier life with loved ones.
