Introduction
 Solid works: It is a 3D solid modelling package which allows users to
develop full solid models in a stimulated environment for both design and
analysis.
 Solid works is released by the head company “Dassault systems”.
 The initial release date is November 1, 1995.
 Solid works is used to develop mechatronics systems from beginning to
end.
  At the initial stage, the software is used for planning, visual ideation,
modelling, feasibility assessment, prototyping, and project management.
Starting Interface
 The software is then used for design and building of mechanical,
electrical, and software elements.
 Solid works is used by students, designers, engineers and other
professionals to produce simple and complex parts, assemblies and
drawings.
 Operating system required is Windows 7, Windows 10 and mac OS.
 Hardware requirements:
 Processor: 3.3 GHz or higher
 RAM: 8GB or higher
 GPU: 4GB or higher
 Drives: SSD drives
Applications of Solid works

 3D Model Design (CAD)

 Assembly of Parts
 Analysis of Part (CAE)
 Making 2D Drawings
 Making (CAM) Programming (CNC Machining)
 Making Additive Manufacturing(AM) (3D Printing)
Tool bars
 Assembly Toolbar
The Assembly toolbar controls the management, movement, and mating
of components.
 Dimensions/Relations Toolbar and Menus
The Dimensions/Relations toolbar and the Tools, Dimensions and Tools,
Relations menus provide tools to dimension and to add and delete
geometric relations.
 Standard Toolbar
The Standard toolbar controls file management and model regeneration.
 Surfaces Toolbar
The Surfaces toolbar provides tools for creating and modifying surfaces.
 Sheet Format Toolbar
The Sheet Format toolbar provides tools for editing the drawing sheet
format, title block, borders, and zones.
Belt grinding machine
 Belt grinding is an abrasive machining
process used on metals and other materials.
It is used as a finishing process in industry.
 A belt, coated in abrasive material, is run over
the surface to be processed in order to remove
material or produce the desired finish.
 Belt grinding is a versatile process suitable for all
kinds of different applications
Working of machine
 This machine consists of end bearings with bearing cap, roller wheel,
shaft, single phase induction motor and abrasive belt.
 An abrasive belt is rotated by the single phase induction motor.
 The roller wheel is mounted on the two end bearings with bearing cap
by suitable arrangement.
 One side of the roller wheel shaft, one stepped cone pulley is coupled
by the suitable arrangement.
 Belt coated with abrasive material is run over the surface to be
processed in order to produce the desired finish.
Methods of Grinding

 Stroke belt
 Platen belt
 Wide belt
 Back stand (pressure)
 Centre less
 Portable (manual)
Advantages of Belt grinding machine:

 This can produce a high surface finish with accurate can obtain.
 This can machine hard materials.
 This operation can be done with less pressure applied on work.
Limitations of Belt grinding machine:
 Process is a costly one.
 It cannot remove the high amount of material, it only removes a
little amount.
 For removing the required amount from work it consumes more
time.
Extruding to 3D model
 Click Insert > Surface > Extrude.
 Select a face:
 To extrude from a 3D face, select a 3D face.
 To extrude from a 2D face, press Alt + select the planar face.
 You can select either a surface or the face of a solid body.
 You can also preselect the 3D faces to extrude before
clicking Insert > Surface > Extrude.
 Select other faces to define the extrude as required. You can select faces
that are not touching when you create a surface extrude in a given
direction.
 Select the end condition
3D Parts
Assembly
 Inserting Components from the PropertyManager
You can add components to new or existing assemblies from the Property
Manager. You can add a single component, multiple components in
sequence, or multiple components at a time at a single location.
 Adding Components from an Open Document Window
You can add components to an assembly by dragging from an open
document window. Depending on how you drag the component, you can
align it with the assembly origin or add Smart Mates.
 Adding Instances of a Component
You can create additional instances of existing components in an
assembly.
 Inferencing to the Assembly Origin
When you insert a component by various means, you can inference the
assembly origin.
Advantages of Solid Works
 Increase Productivity. SOLIDWORKS 3D modelling allows you to
simulate the design aspect in 3D right away and make any necessary
adjustments right away.
 Design Better.
 Cost-Efficient.
 Enhanced Collaboration.
 Innovative.
Limitations of Solid Works
 One big disadvantage of SolidWorks is the way it handles image
editing.
 SolidWorks does not give you the rendering power of other programs
like CATIA.
 SolidWorks files themselves aren’t compatible with many CAD
programs.
 SolidWorks is the more expensive program.
