Holography for Accountants

The document discusses holography and provides an overview of the technology. It describes how holography allows for the recording and reconstruction of three-dimensional images. The history and development of holography is reviewed, from early work by Gabor to later experiments using lasers. Various types of holograms are defined, including transmission, reflection, and computer generated holograms. The working principles and tools used to create holograms are explained. Applications are widespread across fields like promotions, education, entertainment, and more. The global holographic display market is projected to grow significantly in coming years.

What is
Holography?

•Hologram is composed of two Greek

terms:
Holos-"whole view" and
Gram-"writing and  drawing"
•It is an advanced form of
photography.
•Holography is a technique that
allows the light  scattered from an
object to be recorded and  later
reconstructed
INDEX
History of Holography

•Holographic Technology invented

•in 1947
•by Dennis Gabor before the
•invention of the laser.
•Leith and Upatneik (1962)  Applied laser light to holography

INDEX
Why Holography?
•A high resolution three  dimensional image of an
object.
•Glasses free 3D display
•360 degree view of holographic  image
•No need for projection screen.
•Interactive display
Live images.

INDEX
Types of Holograms
1. Transmission Holograms
•Object and Reference beam  incident on
holographic film
•From same sides.
•Less Expensive in mass  production.

2.Reflection Holograms
•Object and Reference beam
incident on holographic film
•From opposite sides.
•Produces high quality images.
Very Expensive

3.Computer Generated
holograms
•Object and Reference beam
incident on holographic film
•From opposite sides.
•Produces high quality images.
•Very Expensive.

INDEX
Internal Hologram

•A transmission or reflection hologram  can be made

from a series of photographs of an object- which can
be a live person, an outdoor scene, a computer
graphic, or an X-ray picture. Usually, the object is
“scanned” by a camera, thus recording many discrete
views.

Embossed
Holograms

•To mass produce holograms for authenticity

applications such as security hologram stickers or the
holograms you find on credit cards, currency and
passports, a two-dimensional interference pattern is
pressed onto thin plastic foils. The original hologram is
usually recorded on a photosensitive material called
photoresist

INDEX
Working of holography

All Physical properties of

scene/object is to be recorded and
then regenerated
Holography is a Twostep process:
•First is recording a hologram of
the object on holographic plate.
•Second is Reconstruction of image
from holograms

INDEX
Tools Required to
make Holograms
•Laser: Red lasers, usually helium-1(HeNe)
lasers.
•Beam Splitter: This is a device that mirrors
and prism to split one beam light into two
beams:
i. Object beam
ii. Reference beam
•Mirrors: Direct the beam light to the correct
locations
•Holographic Film: It’s a layer of light sensitive
compounds on a transparent surface. So it can
record light at a very high resolution

Example: Silver Halide Emulsion

Capturing a
Holographic video

•By replacing conventional holographic plate

with a digital camera and an optoelectronic
2D screen, we can capture and display
holographic video
