Research Topic
Numerical analysis of the seismic performance of a two-storey Balloon-
Type CLT shear wall under multiple seismic events.
Objective
The objective of this research is to investigate the seismic performance
of a two-storey Balloon-Type CLT shear wall under multiple seismic
events through numerical analysis. The study aims to provide insights
into the behavior and response of the shear wall system under different
seismic events and loading conditions, as well as evaluate the
effectiveness of various seismic retrofitting strategies.
Seismic retrofitting strategies : Introducing Posttensioned CLT structural
walls
Methology
• The research will be conducted using numerical analysis techniques such
as finite element analysis (FEA) and OpenSees modeling.
• A two-storey Balloon-Type CLT shear wall system with varying panel aspect
ratios, hold-downs, and connection details will be modeled and subjected
to multiple seismic events of different intensities, frequencies, and
durations.
• The analysis will consider different ground motion records, including real
recorded seismic events and synthetic ground motions (VC), to capture a
range of potential scenarios. The seismic response of the system, including
displacements, accelerations, shear and bending stresses, and damage
patterns, will be evaluated and compared under different seismic events.
Results
• The results of this research will provide insights into the seismic
performance of Balloon-Type CLT shear walls under multiple seismic
events and loading conditions.
• The study will identify the critical factors that affect the response of
the shear wall system, including panel aspect ratios, connection
details, and seismic retrofitting strategies.
Model Validation
• Research Paper : Effects of Ground Motion Duration on the Seismic
Performance of a Two-Storey Balloon-Type CLT Building.
• For Validation : 2D shear wall will be validated
