Extrusion

This presentation provides an overview of extrusion processes for plastics. It discusses the basic extrusion process which involves feeding, melting, conveying, shaping and cooling plastic material. The main types of extrusion like single screw, twin screw and co-extrusion are presented. Common materials used for extrusion like PVC, HDPE and LDPE are described. The key equipment, process control measures, applications and advantages of extrusion are summarized. Finally, challenges faced and sustainability aspects of plastics extrusion are briefly covered.

Introduction

 Definition of extrusion: A manufacturing process that involves shaping a

material by forcing it through a die (a cutting tool used to cut material to a
specific shape).
In short: a metal forming process in which metal or work piece is forced to flow through a die to reduce its
cross section or convert it into desire shape.

 Importance of extrusion in plastics processing: Efficient and versatile

method for creating various plastic products.

 Primary goals of plastic extrusion: High efficiency, quality control, cost-

effectiveness.
The Extrusion Process

Steps involved in the extrusion process:

1.Feeding of raw material

2.Melting of material
3.Conveying through the extruder
4.Shaping within the die
5.Cooling and solidification
