COMMON FORMAT
I. I. Introduction- Title or Name of the Subject, Author or Creator, Date Made, and
other basic information about the subject.
II. II. Body (has 2 sections)
I. A. Summary- Explains what the subject is. Is it a scholarly work? A work of
art? What is its purpose? What does it contain? What can be seen from it?
II. B. Evaluation- Presents your judgment of the subject. How well is the
subject made? How do you feel about it? What are its good and bad points?
Is the work significant? May use Critical Approaches- formalism, feminism,
Marxism, and reader response.
III. Conclusion- tells your overall impression of the work. Includes final
judgement on the subject’s value, significance, worth or future improvements.
REACTION PAPER
 -presents your reasonable response to anything
seen, heard, read, or experienced.
 -can be made by anyone.
 -focused on personal appreciation of the
subject
 -is for expression of personal judgments..
Here are some of reading strategies that may be useful as you search for
additional data or information about a certain literary or visual art.

1. Previewing focuses on looking for titles, subtitles,


visuals and other text features in order to have an idea about
the topic and the purpose of the text.

2. Skimming focuses on looking for the main points of the


reading material and identifies the ideas that develop it
while moving eyes rapidly and tracing your finger along the
lines of the text to speed up your reading.
Here are some of reading strategies that may be useful as you search for
additional data or information about a certain literary or visual art.

3. Scanning focuses on looking for specific


information without having to read every word, just
locate the details you are searching for.

4. Context clues are the hints or clues that an


author gives to help define a difficult or unusual
word.

REVIEW
 -is an objective judgement of something.
 -focused on highlighting the good and bad
points.
 -gives audience an informed judgment about
the subject.

evaluation among the three.
 -is made by experts of the field.
 -focused on analyzing and evaluating the
components of a work.
 -is usually made to provide direction for future
improvements of the subject.
