Present Simple 3rd Person
• In general, with Present Simple we do not conjugate the verb.

• There is one exception:

• HE, SHE, IT (3RD PERSON SINGULAR)

• In this case, we conjugate the verb by adding an –S.

You like hip hop, but your brother (he) likeS classical music.

My dogs (they) eat wet food, but my cat (it) eatS dry food.
Spelling rules for 3rd person
• The spelling rules for third person singular when talking about present simple are:

• Most verbs, simply add –s. Eg: runs, drinks, sleeps, talks,

• The ending is -es when the word ends in -s/-ss/-sh/-ch/-x/-o. Eg: misses, goes, teaches,
washes, fixes.

• Verbs ending in -y change to ie before the ending -s. Eg: studies, carries.

• Verbs ending in -ay -ey- oy- uy do not change. Just add -s. Eg: says, buys, obeys.
