Introduction
Setting up a wireless network in a building with 3 floors and a total of 30 rooms, including
a computer lab with 20 PCs, a library with 10 PCs.
4 offices, each equipped with 2 PCs Including one department on the ground floor, two
departments on the second floor, and one department on the third floor, requires careful
planning.
With 4 departments spread across the building, including one on the ground floor, two on
the second floor, and one on the third floor, ensuring seamless connectivity and coverage is
essential for smooth operations.
Efficiently managing 200 users on each floor necessitates a well-designed wireless
network infrastructure.
This guide will outline the devices needed and their placement to create a robust wireless
network catering to the specific needs of each area and department.

Device specification
Core Router (Cisco ISR 4451-X )
Cisco ISR 4451-X centrally located for efficient routing and connectivity.
Configured with redundancy and failover mechanisms for high availability.
Access Points (Ubiquiti UniFi AP AC Pro )
Ubiquiti UniFi AP AC Pro strategically placed on each floor, with additional focus in
common areas, ensuring seamless coverage
Ethernet Switches (Cisco Catalyst 2960X )
Cisco Catalyst 2960X switches deployed on ground floor connected with router
Ensure that access point are connected to the switch for WIFI coverage on each floor.
PoE support for powering access points and other PoE devices.
Network design
Router placement
position the router between the internet connection and the Ethernet firewall in the
central room on the ground floor
Internet connection
Connect the router to the building’s main internet connection (e.g fiber or broad band )
Firewall and security
connect the firewall to the router .
Switch and APs
Connect the switch to the router . Ensure that Aps are connected to the switch for WIFI
coverage on each floor
VLAN Segmentation
VLAN 10 - General Users
Assigned to each floor for general users.
VLAN 20 - Computer Lab
Dedicated VLAN for the Computer Lab to enhance security and resource management.
VLAN 30 - Library
Dedicated VLAN for the Library, ensuring segregated access.
Security Measures
Wireless Security
WPA3 encryption for robust security.
MAC address filtering for device access control.
Network Security Appliance
Cisco ASA 5500 series firewall for comprehensive network security.
Intrusion Prevention System (IPS) for threat detection and prevention.
Channel Optimization
2.4GHz: Channels 1, 6, 11 for non-overlapping coverage.
5GHz: Dynamic channel selection based on least interference.
Quality of Service (QoS)
Prioritization of bandwidth for critical areas such as the Computer Lab and Library.
QoS policies to ensure optimal performance for specific applications and services.
