Creating 2-
Dimensional
Objects In
CAD
LESSON OBJECTIVES:
Draw the following 2D objects in
AutoCAD:
1. Line
2. Polyline
3. Circle
4. Arc
5. Rectangle
6. Polygon
7. Ellipse
SHORT REVIEW
There are 2 ways to use Zoom and Pan:
1. Zoom in the object, type the word “Pan”
or its command alias “P” then press
enter. Left click on the area then you
can already move the entire drawing
area to the object that you want to
focus.
2. Directly use the scroll wheel of your
mouse, then it automatically triggers
your Pan function and you can now
directly navigate the drawing area of
your file.
Additional Knowledge
There are 2 types of Selection Tool:
1. Blue Selection (Window Select) –
only the objects within the bounding
box are included in the selection set
thus if only touches the part of an
object, that object is not included in the
selection.
2. Green Selection (Cross Select) –
everything the bounding box touches
is included in the selection set,
including things only partially selected
by the box.

CREATING A LINE:
1. Relative Coordinate – first point is
assumed to be your origin.
2. Absolute Coordinate – uses the symbol
“#” before typing the coordinate thus
making the reference of the line still the
origin point of 0,0.
3. Use of “Tab” to specify the length and
angle of the line.
6
CREATING A CIRCLE:
Ways to draw a circle:
- Center, Radius
- Center, Diameter
- 2-Point
- 3-Point
- Tan, Tan, Radius
- Tan, Tan, Tan

CREATING AN ARC:
Ways to Draw an Arc: (Angle refers from x-axis)
➜ 3 Point ➜ Start, End, Radius
➜ Start, Center, End ➜ Center, Start, End
➜ Start, Center, Angle ➜ Center, Start, Angle
➜ Start, Center, Length ➜ Center, Start, Length
➜ Start, End, Angle ➜ Continue
➜ Start, End, Direction

CREATING ADDITIONAL OBJECTS:
There are 3 types of objects that can be
directly created in CAD, following objects are:
- Rectangle
- Polygon
- Ellipse
- Center
- Axis, End
- Elliptical Arc
