Learning Activities

Day 6 Jan 30 H & J block Scavenger Hunt!

Planning & Instructions:
1. Materials: worksheets, 2-D shape cards, 3-D shape models, rulers, measuring tapes,
calculators, ??
2. Set 7 stations in and around the classroom.
3. Grouping: work in pairs (no 3 people in a group)
4. Provide a set of Qs: 1~3 Qs per station. You need to use mathematical concepts to get
the answers.
5. Move around the stations (Flow: Group 1→ Start from Station 1, Group 2: Start from
Station 2, Group 3: Start from 3, —- Group 6: Start from Station 6, etc)

6. Station 7: Challenge

7. After completing each station, get a stamp/mark from a teacher.

8. Winner gets a prize ^-^

# Station 5

Task: Volumes

(Out of the three) Select any two objects

from the table and find their volumes by

the volume?
# Station 6

Task: Create!

Create your own question.

Design your own shape or object that would
challenge your classmates in understanding its
area, perimeter, or volume. Sketch it and explain
your reasoning. You must also create a “model
answer” that includes working.
# Station 7

Task A Task B
1. Calculate the volume of the
air cleaner.
2. Calculate/estimate the
volume of this classroom.
3. What % of the classroom
does the air cleaner take up?
Reflection
With your partner, discuss your findings, share insights, and relate your experiences of
what you learned through this activity.

Then, answer the following questions.

1) What was the most fun station? Why?

2) What calculations do you feel most confident?
3) Which calculations do you still need to improve?
# Optional

Task
You have a cylinder with radius a and height h. You also have a
square based prism with side length 2a and height h.
Calculate volume for each of these two shapes in terms of a and
h, and compare their volumes. Express their volume as a ratio.
