Circular motion at angles

Problems 1
A car with mass 1200kg passes over a bridge with a radius
of curvature of 15m at a speed of 10 ms-1. Calculate:
a. The centripetal acceleration of the car on the bridge
b. The support force on the car when it is at the top
The maximum speed without skidding for a car with
mass 750kg on a roundabout of radius 20m is 9ms-1.
Calculate:
c. The centripetal acceleration of the car on the
roundabout
d. The centripetal force at this speed
Problems 2
A car is racing on a track banked at 25° to the
horizontal on a bend with radius of curvature of
350m
a. Show that the maximum speed at which the
car can take the bend without sideways
friction is 40ms-1
b. Explain what will happen if the car takes the
bend at ever increasing speeds
Tough Questions
1. A body of mass 1.5 kg is attached to a string 1m long and revolves
in a horizontal circle of radius 40cm, thus making a conical
pendulum. Find (a) the tension in the string (b) the period of the
pendulum
2. A string, which breaks under a tension of 12N, is used to make a
conical pendulum. If the string is 100cm long and the bob is of
mass 1kg find the maximum possible speed of the bob in m/s.
3. A train of mass 2 x 104 kg is rounding an unbanked curve of radius
500m at a speed of 60km/h. Find the horizontal thrust of the rails
on the flanges of the wheels.
4. A train travels at a speed of 100km/h round a curve of radius
400m. What must be the angle of banking if there is to be no side
thrust on the rails by the flanges of the wheels
