Introduction to
Drafting Tools,
Materials, and
Instrument
Introduction
Before the introduction of computer aided
drawings, technical drawings were used as
guide for building construction and technical
specifications for manufacturing and design.
T - Square
A T - square is a straight edge
used in drafting to draw
horizontal lines and to align
other drawing instruments.
Movable T-Square
A movable T square is an
adjustable version of the T
square, allowing for various
lengths and angles.
Remoavble T-Square
A removable T square is a type
of T square that can be easily
detached from the drawing
board for convenience.
Divider
A divider is a drawing
instrument used to measure
distances and scribe circles
or arcs.
Compass
A compass is a tool used for
drawing circles and arcs of
various sizes.
Masking Tape
Masking tape is used to
secure drawing paper to a
drawing board without
damaging the paper.
Triangles
Triangles are used in
combination with a T
square to draw vertical
and angled lines.
Triangular Scale
A triangular scale is a
measuring tool with
different scales on each of
its three edges, used for
drafting and architectural
drawings.
Protractor
A protractor is a device for
measuring angles, typically
in degrees.
Erasing Shield
An erasing shield is a thin,
flexible metal sheet with
various shapes cut out,
used to protect parts of a
drawing while erasing.
Pencil Sharpener
A pencil sharpener is a tool
used to sharpen pencils for
precise drawing.
Pens
Pens are used for inking
and adding fine details to
drawings.
Fountain Pens
ideal for freehand
sketching and writing
Technical Pens
a high-precision drawing
device that can be refilled
with cartridges.
Pencil
A pencil is a primary tool for
sketching and drafting,
providing the ability to easily
erase and make subtle
changes.
Mechanical Pencil
These pencils hold leads of
various weights depending on
the size of the nib. It has a
push-button that allow the
lead to be adjusted or
withdrawn.
Lead sizes are 0.3 mm, 0.5
mm, and 0.9 mm
Eraser
An eraser is used to remove
pencil marks from paper.
Correction Liquid
a normal white fluid that
when applied to paper
mask errors
Eleictric Eraser
Electric erasers are useful
for erasing large areas
drawn with pencil, ink, and
charcoal drawings
Drawing Paper
Drawing paper is a high-
quality paper used for
sketching, drafting, and
other artistic purposes.
Drawing Board
A drawing board is a flat
surface used to support
drawing paper for drafting
and illustration.
Auto Cad
AutoCAD is a computer-
aided design (CAD) software
application used for creating
precise 2D and 3D
drawings.
Computer Hardware
a. CPU - The frequency directly
affects how many operations a
single CPU core can complete in a
second (how fast it Is)
Computer Hardware
b. Video Card (GPU) - For AutoCAD,
the video card is what handles
displaying the 2D and 3D models on
the screen. Only 3D models require
anything more than a basic GPU,
though, so if you will only be working
with 2D models then you are better
off saving money on the GPU and
putting that money towards a faster
CPU, SSD, or more RAM. An NVIDIA
Quadro card is recommended for this
brand.
