Constructing Velocity vs. Time and

Position vs. Time-graph and
Velocity vs. time graph and vice
versa
In mathematics the slope of a line is the
rise over the run
SLOPE SLOPE = rise/run
or = change in y/ change in x
= y1-y2/ x2-x1
Today, you will:
Interpret velocity and acceleration,
respectively as slopes of position vs.
time and velocity vs. time curves;
Construct velocity vs. time and acceleration vs.
time graphs, respectively,
corresponding to a given position vs. time-graph
and velocity vs. time graph and vice versa

POSITION is ACCELERATION
the location of is the rate of
an object in change of
relation to a velocity with
respect to
chosen frame.
time.
2
VELOCITY is
the rate of
change of
position with
respect to
time.
POSITION-TIME GRAPH
- it shows how far something travels
over a period of time.
- it is the representation of speed or
velocity when we indicate the
direction of the moving object.

POSITION-TIME GRAPH
VELOCITY-TIME GRAPH
- it shows how velocity changes over time.
The slope, equal to rise over run, is equal to the
acceleration of the object.
VELOCITY-TIME GRAPH
EXAMPLE:
Say you are walking on a path in the woods on a fine autumn
day. You walk the one kilometer path at a rate of 100 meters
per minute all the way to the end of the path, then you sit and
rest on a bench for another 10 minutes, thinking about what to
have for lunch. Once you've got an idea, you get vert excited,
so you begin to run back the way you came at a rate of two
hundred meters per minute, but after you get halfway back,
you become tired and you slow down to 50 meters per minute.

EXAMPLE:

100m/min rest 200m/min 50m/min
for 1,000 m (10min) for 500 m for 500 m
1,000
meters
ACCELERATION-TIME GRAPH
- In the acceleration vs time graph on the x-axis you
have the time taken by the object and on the y-axis
acceleration of the object, in which the area under the
graph gives you the change in velocity of the object over
the given period of time
