When do we use the Present
Continuous?
1) We use the present continuous tense for
something that is happening at the moment of
speaking.
Ex: We are watching T.V. now.
2) We also use it to talk about future plans.
Ex: I am going to Spain next month.

the verbs
• 1) Add “ing” to the base form
• Ex. : read reading

2) If the verb ends with "e" remove the
"e" and add "ing.
•Ex. : leave leaving

However, verbs that end with double "ee" add
"ing" without changes
Ex: see seeing

3) In the one syllable word, if the last three letters are
consonant – vowel – consonant (CVC), double the last
consonant before adding "ing".
Ex. : sit sitting
run running
hop hopping
drop(CVC)
dropping

However, do not double the last consonant in
a word that ends with ( w, x and y)
Ex. : sew sewing
fix fixing
enjoy enjoying

4) In verbs that end in –ie, change the ie to y
before adding –ing
