Communication Trends at a Glance

An impression on my poor choice of words and illiteracy.

The digital world is known for its fast pace,
with one trend chasing the next. People who
can keep up with the temp are evolving, and
those who can't are already
“dead”.Communication is the most important
thing to humanity; if you can't communicate
with others, you have no difference from the
dead.
What is communication?

Communication is the transmission of information by a sender to a recipient

in a certain format through a certain medium to achieve a certain purpose. In a
broad sense, any traffic of information is communication. In a narrow sense,
communication refers to the exchange of information using electricity as a carrier.
Therefore, in many cases, the meanings of "communication" and
"telecommunication" are similar, and there is no special distinction between them.
Communication technology has shortened the distance between people, improved
the efficiency of communication, and profoundly changed the way of humans
communicate.
History of communication

In ancient times, people communicated information

through post stations, flying pigeons, beacon fire alarms,
symbols, language, eyes, and touch. Today, with the rapid
development of science and technology, communication is
completed by wire or radio, and various communication
methods such as wired telephone, fixed telephone, wireless
telephone, mobile phone, Internet and even video
telephone have emerged.
Spoken age

Oral language, as opposed to written language, is

the language used in verbal communication, and it is
also the earliest form of language commonly used by
humans. All human races have spoken languages.
Spoken language is usually transmitted through sound,
but sometimes it is often described in words in literary
works. Spoken language, as opposed to sign language,
is a language that uses sounds to express meaning.
The era of writing

The development of writing is gradual. Before the development

of writing, many original writings appeared. These original writings
were in the transition stage from no writing to writing. The most
significant difference between them and writing is that these
symbols are usually not used for recording and comparison—
complete language, but rather for frequent communication or
characters that aid memory. The Jiahu Qiqi symbol discovered in
China belongs to a stage of development from no writing to having
written, and it may be one of the earliest known primitive writings
in the world.
It is generally accepted that the "real" writing used to record a
relatively complete language is Sumerian cuneiform around 3,500 BC.
According to the study, this earliest "writing" was just a memory aid
consisting of simplified lines to simulate the object to which it was
pointed. For example, the line on the bull's head represents a cow,
and the bar inside a triangle represents a woman. These are all
pictographs. Over time, pictographs stopped simply representing the
objects they icon and began to take on broader meanings from the
context. Egyptian hieroglyphics in Egypt appeared a little later
(around 3,000 BC) than cuneiform. The earliest alphabetic writing in
the world is the Phoenician alphabet, about 1000 BC, derived from
the Egyptian scriptures. From a Western point of view, the present
Latin and Cyrillic alphabets are derived from the Greek alphabet,
Which is directly derived from the Phoenician alphabet.
The development of writing has gone through several stages
"pictorial writing - ideographic writing - phonetic writing". It
should be noted that these stages only show the order in which
different characters appear and their interrelationships. It does
not mean that the latter is necessarily superior to the former.
The pros and cons of different types of characters should be
judged based on the other characteristics of the languages they
record. Only those characters that can accurately record the
attributes of the corresponding language are excellent.
printing age

In 1044, Bi Sheng invented movable type printing.

In 1450, Johannes Gutenberg invented metal movable type printing. Telecom Age

In 1837, American Morse invented the telegraph.

In 1857, the telegraph cable across the United States was completed.

In 1875, Bell invented the first telephone in history.

In 1895, the Russian Popov, the American Nikola Tesla and the Italian

Marconi successfully developed a radio receiver simultaneously.

In 1895, the French Lumière brothers premiered their first film in Paris.

In 1912, radio saved more than 700 lives in the sinking of the Titanic.

In the 1920s, the radio was introduced.

In the 1920s, the British Baird successfully transmitted television pictures and

was known as the inventor of television. With the outbreak of the Second World War, the television
business was interrupted, and the war highlighted the low cost of broadcasting and accessible
In 1962, the United States launched the first artificial satellite, ushering in the era of television
satellite transmission.

The era of network communication

In 1955, the United States issued the first military electronic computer for the needs of the
war.

In 1969, the US military created the ARPANET to prevent communications from being disrupted
during an attack.

In 1983, the US Department of Defense divided the ARPANET into military and civilian
networks and gradually expanded into today's Internet.

In 1993, the United States announced construction of an information highway project to

integrate computers, telephones, and television media.

Since the birth of the digital world, everything has been different. The Internet has brought
incredible influence and changes to human society, and the communication trends in the last
The Internet's Impact on Communication

The Internet is arguably the greatest invention of humankind. Its complexity

is beyond our imagination. The purpose of its existence is to exchange information
remotely, that is, communication, between two machines, between two people, or
between people and machines. Internet communication technology is a network
technology that uses the computer as the essential communication carrier and the
network as the channel to communicate through the Internet. Whether sound,
picture or video graphics, it can be transmitted on the Internet to realise the
sharing of resources. Internet communication technology breaks the traditional
geographical and spatial constraints so that information can be quickly transferred
to the destination. Its godlike functionality and speed of evolution have placed it
on a par with, or even higher than, the telephone.

Nano Communities

Content is getting shorter, more comprehensive and, at the same time, more
audible.
User Behavior influenced by the Pandemic.

The past two years have clearly shown which impact a global pandemic exerts on user behaviour. That
is also reflected in the search queries on Google. If you look at what people looked for in 2021, the first
trends quickly become evident.

The majority of people prefer life outside the virtual world. Local shopping, joint travel plans, and
social activities are gaining in popularity again. At the same time, a large group of people are maintaining
their pandemic activities in the digital world. The result is increasing connectivity between the analogue and
digital worlds, which continue to grow into each other. This is particularly noticeable in the social realm.
Indications of that are provided by new social media platforms such as the Bonn-based startup Real Note, in
which content can only be viewed in the real world by using AR.

Furthermore, many companies and consumers have shifted their focus to sustainability and
environmentally friendly resources. The Google mentioned above Trends Report 2021 states that more than
80 per cent of users indicated that sustainability has become more important than in pre- pandemic times.
Virtual Experiences and Digital Interactions

Through the Metaverse and remote work, people are now communicating
Digitally more than ever before – a development that appears to be taking root in
our society for the long term. According to Meta’s annual trend report, the
Metaverse, in particular, is rapidly gaining popularity. On Instagram alone, people
are talking about the hashtag #virtualreality up to 47 per cent more often.

The so-called Nano Communities are emerging by spending more time on

social media and in digital communities. Young people especially gather in forums
such as Reddit to discuss niche topics.

Marketing managers should pay close attention to these subject matters and
forums, especially against the background of social listening activities. Important
insights revealing the interests of the target group can be gained here.
Conclusions and Recommendations

As mentioned before, communication has shortened the distance between

people, but since the invention of the Internet, this distance has slowly increased
again. People began to use communication methods for other purposes.
Communication technology and the future of humanity are closely related.AR and
VR technologies are slowly bringing the digital and real worlds closer. It can take
our civilization to unimaginable heights, or I'll send us straight to hell, but who
cares?

It's not something we should worry about.
