ACTIVITY 02

Direction: Determine whether each function is

linear or not, then write YES if it’s the linear
function and NO if not. Write your answer on
your ¼ sheet of paper.
1. y = x + 5
4. y = 2x2 + 5
2. y = x2 – 2x + 1 5. y = (x – 2) (x +
3. x + y = -2 3)

QUADRATIC 04

FUNCTION
- A quadratic function is a polynomial function
of degree two in one or more variables, written in the
form:
f(x) = ax2 + bx + c,
where a, b, and c are constants and a =
0.
The graph of a quadratic function is
a curve called a parabola. Parabolas
may open upward or downward and
vary in "width" or "steepness", but
they all have the same basic "U"

FUNCTION
Example of Quadratic

Functions: 20x² -15x - 10 = 0.

• 6x² + 11x - 35 = 0. • x² -x - 3 = 0.

• 2x² - 4x - 2 = 0.

• -4x² - 7x +12 = 0.

LINEAR 05

FUNCTION
- A linear function is a function that has either one
or two variables with no exponents or powers, and
graphs to a straight line. The expression for a linear
function is
(y=mx +
where: m: is the slope c),
c: is the intercept
(x, y): are the
coordinates
Linear function is a function that graphs
to the straight line.

LINEAR 05

FUNCTION
Example of Linear
Function

·y = 2x + 1. ·2x + 4y = 10.

·3x - 4y = 8. ·y = -3x + 7.
·5y + 2 = 3x.
ACTIVITY

Directions: State whether each of the following

equations represents a Quadratic Function or Linear
Function.
1. y=x + 2 6. y = 22 +3x + 2
2. y= 2x – 10 7. y= 2x²
3. y=9 - 2x² 8. y = (x-2)(x+4)
4. y = 2 + 2 9. 0 = (x-3)(x+3)+ x-y
5. y = 3x2 + x + 2 10. 3x + y - 2x = 0
