Principle of function of a filler: carousel

- Product bowl with filling valves which rotates during production
- Diameter 1440 mm (Type 121) up to 5760 mm (Type 136)
- Commission Number:
- K 136 – 820
- 136: Bottle filler, pitch circle 5760 mm
- 820: continuous number
- K 2xx – 149

Closing of the containers

- Closer on the front table or separate after the filler (can seamer)
- Closure types: Crown corks, screw caps plastic, screw caps aluminum, natural corks.

- The capper is also a separate module
with a servodrive.
- An additon of more capper types is
easy done by connection of a further
module.

Liquids and gases

- Supplied via pipe system
- Distribution to the carousel via rotary distributor

Cleaning: CIP
- CIP  Cleaning In Place
- Cleaning in a closed circuit – from the CIP
plant through the filler and back to the CIP
plant
- CIP-caps are inserted into the filler to get the
closed circuit

How is being filled?

- The container is being placed right under the filling
valve.
- The controlling of the filling valve will be done by an
intelligent electronic (KFS3, KFS5) or by cams (VK-
fillers).
- The filling process happens during the rotation of the
filler carousel.

Why vacuum?
- The air in the bottle contains oxygen.
- Oxygen in the beer reduces the shelf
life.
- The evacuation of the container before
the filling process reduces the O2 pick-
up during the filling process.

Why pressure?
- The pressure avoids the foaming of the
product.
- The pressure avoids the de-aeration of
the product during filling.
- The pressure closes the filling valve (at
certain filler types).

Why gas and what kind of gas?

- As inert gas, displaces oxygen and microorganism.

- The type of gas depends on the product:

- CO2 for carbonated beverages (Cola)
- N2 , sterile air (oil-free air) for non-carbonated
beverages (Juice)

Saturation pressure

In theory the saturation pressure is the pressure of the gas phase at a

given temperature when the gas- and liquid phases are in a state of
balance.
That means that there is an exact pressure corresponding to a given
temperature and a given gas concentration when the dissolved gas will no
longer change, the so called saturation pressure.

Saturation pressure

If the pressure drops or the temperature rises gas can escape more easily.
But the gas can also be dissolved more easily in the liquid when the
pressure is high and the temperature is low.
That´s why the pressure in the ringbowl at filling CSD and beer should be
approx. 1 bar higher than the saturation pressure.

Control of the filling process

- Fillers controlled electro
pneumatically:
- VKP
- VP
- VO
- VODM

An electronic-system (KFS3 /
KFS5) controls solenoids
which are controlling the
different filling valve
functions.
