Introduction
A Cauchy–Euler differential equation is a type of linear differential equation of
the form:

Standard Second order Form :

If f(x) = 0 ; homogeneous equation.

If f(x) ≠ 0 ; non-homogeneous equation.
Method of Solution (Homogeneous Case)
• Substitution :
• Derivatives :

• Substitute into the equation :

=> r(r-1) + ar + b = 0

• Solve the auxiliary equation for r

Example (Homogeneous)
Solve:

+ 4 = 0 => r = 2,2

General Solution :
Non-Homogeneous Case & Applications
If f(x)≠0, solve:

•Complementary function (C.F.) — same method as homogeneous

case.

• Particular integral (P.I.) — use undetermined coefficients

or variation of parameters

 Applications :
 Physics (vibrations, wave motion).
 Engineering (beam deflection)
 Economics (scale-invariant models).
