FUNDAMENTALS OF

ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENC

LECTURE-12
DR. M.SHUJAH UR REHMAN
PHILOSOPHY OF AI,
AI in Media and Content
Creation
I. Philosophy and AI and its Foundation
II. Role of AI in Media: Content Recommendation, Creation
III. Practical Applications: Automated Journalism, Personalized Ads
 Project: How to Create an AI-generated story.
Philosophy and AI
 The philosophy of AI is the branch of philosophy that studies the concepts,
assumptions, implications, and ethical questions related to Artificial
Intelligence.
 The foundations of the philosophy of AI are the core ideas and disciplines that
shape how we think about AI from a philosophical perspective. These foundations
come from philosophy of mind, logic, epistemology, ethics, and
metaphysics.
 Philosophy of AI asks big foundational questions like:
Can machines really think, or do they just simulate thinking?
What is intelligence, and can it be replicated by a machine?
Can AI have consciousness or understanding?
Should AI systems be given rights or moral consideration?
How should humans design, control, and live with intelligent machines?

*Epistemology = the study of knowledge, belief, truth, and justification

**Metaphysics = the study of what exists, what it means to exist, and the ultimate nature of reality
Key Areas of the Philosophy
of AI
 Nature of intelligence and mind → What counts as intelligence? Can machines
have minds?
 Consciousness and understanding → Does AI “understand” or just process?
 Ethics and responsibility → Should AI be held accountable? How to avoid bias and
harm?
 Human uniqueness and identity → Does AI challenge what it means to be
human?
 Future and existential risks → Could AI surpass human intelligence? How to
ensure safety?

 The philosophy of AI isn’t about building AI—it’s about

thinking deeply and critically about what AI means, what
it can do, and how it affects human life and values.
I. Role of AI in Media: Content Recommendation,
Creation
1. AI in content recommendation → makes media consumption more
personalized, improving user engagement.
 AI plays a key role in helping users discover relevant content by analyzing their
preferences and behaviors.
How it works:
 Uses machine learning algorithms to analyze user data (watch history, likes,
clicks, time spent).
 Builds personalized profiles and predicts what the user is likely to enjoy next.
 Continuously improves recommendations based on user feedback.
Examples:
 Netflix, YouTube, Spotify: recommend movies, videos, songs
 News apps (Google News, Flipboard): suggest articles tailored to user
interests
 E-commerce sites (Amazon): recommend media products like books, music
Continue…
 Business impact:
 Increases user engagement and time spent on platforms
 Boosts content consumption and advertising revenue
 Reduces churn by keeping users satisfied with relevant
suggestions
Content Creation
2. AI in content creation → speeds up or automates media production,
opening new creative possibilities but also raising ethical concerns.
 AI is also being used to generate or assist in creating media content,
making production faster and sometimes cheaper.
 AI-powered content creation includes:
 Automated journalism: AI writes short news reports based on data (e.g.,
sports scores, financial updates)
→ Example: The Washington Post’s Heliograf
 Video editing: AI suggests clips, edits sequences, or auto-generates
highlights (e.g., Adobe Sensei, Magisto)
 AI-generated music: Tools like AIVA or Amper Music compose background
scores
 Deepfake videos & synthetic media: AI recreates faces, voices, or
entire scenes
 Scriptwriting assistance: AI tools suggest plot ideas, dialogue (e.g.,
Sudowrite, ChatGPT)
Continue…

Business impact:
 Reduces time and cost of content production
 Enables personalized or localized content at scale
 Raises ethical challenges (e.g., misinformation, copyright issues)
II. Practical Applications: Automated Journalism,
Personalized Ads
1. Automated Journalism (AI-Powered News Writing)
 AI is being used to automatically generate news stories from
structured data like sports scores, financial reports, or election results.
How it works:
 AI reads structured data → uses Natural Language Generation (NLG) to
convert it into human-readable articles.
 Templates and machine learning models fill in facts, numbers, and
context.
Examples:
 The Washington Post’s Heliograf → covered 500+ election stories in
2016
 Associated Press → uses AI to generate earnings reports for thousands
of companies
 Reuters, Bloomberg → use AI for financial news summaries
Continue…
Benefits:
 Speeds up reporting of routine stories
 Covers more topics with fewer human resources
 Frees journalists to focus on analysis and investigative work
Limitations:
 Struggles with complex or nuanced topics
 Relies on accuracy of input data
Continue…
2. Personalized Advertising (AI-Driven Ads)
 AI enables companies to deliver ads tailored to individual users’ preferences,
behaviors, and demographics.
 Personalized ads → uses AI to target users with tailored marketing messages for
higher effectiveness.
How it works:
 AI analyzes user data: browsing history, clicks, purchase patterns, social media activity.
 Builds predictive models to decide which ad to show, when, and where for
maximum relevance.
 Uses programmatic advertising platforms to automate ad placement and bidding
in real-time.
Examples:
 Facebook Ads & Google Ads: use AI to target users based on interests and
behaviors.
 Spotify, YouTube: deliver personalized audio and video ads depending on
listening/watching patterns.
 E-commerce: shows users product ads they browsed but didn’t buy (retargeting).
Continue…
Benefits:
 Increases ad relevance and engagement
 Improves ROI for advertisers
 Reduces wasted ad spending on uninterested audiences
Challenges:
 Raises privacy and ethical concerns
 Ad fatigue if over-targeted
How to Create an
AI-generated story.
1. Write the Script / Narrative
Start by writing a clear script based on your case study (introduction, problem,
solution, impact, conclusion).
👉 You can use ChatGPT, Grammarly, or Jasper AI to help write or improve the
script.

2. Generate Visuals (Images, Illustrations, Charts)

 If you don’t have original photos, use AI image generators like:
 Midjourney or DALL·E (for artistic/illustrative visuals)
 Canva Magic Media (easy for non-technical users)
 Piktochart or Infogram (for infographics and charts)
 👉 You can also generate AI avatars or characters if you want
animated presenters (using Synthesia.io or HeyGen).
3. AI Voiceover / Narration
Instead of recording your own voice,
you can generate professional
voiceovers with tools like:
ElevenLabs (realistic AI voices)
Murf.ai
Lovo.ai
4. Create or Edit the Video

 Use AI-powered video creation tools that let you combine

visuals, narration, text overlays, and animations:
 Pictory.ai (great for turning scripts into videos automatically)
 Synthesia.io (if you want an AI avatar presenting your case
study)
 InVideo.io (good templates + AI assistance)
 Canva Video Editor (for a simple, drag-and-drop interface)
 Upload your visuals, add the narration, insert subtitles, and time
the content.
5. Post-production
Enhancements (Optional)
 Use AI tools to polish the video:
 Descript: edit video by editing the text transcript
 Runway ML: for AI-powered effects, background removal,
motion tracking
 Adobe Premiere Pro (with Sensei AI): for pro-level AI-assisted
editing
6. Export & Share

 Export in the format you need (MP4, MOV) and upload to

platforms like YouTube, Vimeo, or embed in presentations.
Workflow:
 ChatGPT → write case study script
 DALL·E → generate supporting images
 ElevenLabs → voiceover
 Pictory.ai → assemble into video
 Descript → fine-tune edits
 Export & publish
