INSERTING IMAGE IN A DOCUMENT
Image in a writer can be
• Diagrams created using draw module
• Photos, pictures, drawings and scanned images
• Artwork created using clip-art, font work
• Charts created using calc module
Writer provides many tools to work with any kind of image stored with
any type of file extensions, an image file stored on computer can be
embedded to a document using any one of the following ways
• Using insert image dialog
• Drag & drop method
• Copy & paste

used to sharpen image by adjusting contrast between neighbouring pixels.
Remove Noise –
used to smoothen image by reducing drastic contrast between neighbouring
pixels.
Posterize –
used to change look like painting by reducing the number of colours in the
graphic image.
Pop Art –
used to change the colours of an image, making it appear from comic look.

Flip image Next two tools are used to flip an image. First one flips an image vertically and
next one flips it horizontally by 90°

Rotate Next three tools are used for rotating an image. First one rotates an image to left by
90°, next rotates to right by 90°, and last one is used to freely rotate an image.
To use freely rotate tool:
Select the image.
Click on Rotate tool on Image toolbar, the shape of selection handle changes to
circle of pink colour.
Move mouse over one of the pink handles at corner of the image. Mouse turns to
round two headed arrow.
Now left click, and move mouse up or down to rotate image.
Release left click, once image is rotated
Transparency Used to adjust the degree of transparency of the image. Transparency can be set from
0% (opaque) to 100% (fully transparent). It is used to create watermark or placing an
image as background.

Cropping Images
When you are only interested in a section of the image for the purpose of your document, you may wish to
crop (cut out) parts of it. Writer provides three ways for cropping images. The Crop option from context menu,
Crop tool on the image toolbar, and the Crop Page of the Image dialog. The Crop tool and Crop Image option
provides a quick and easy way to crop an image; but for more control use the Image dialog.

Using the Crop tool


To use the crop tool, right-click on the image and select Crop from the context menu or choose the Crop
Image option from toolbar. Cropping handles appear at the corners and mid-points of the image. Drag a handle
to cut out part of the image. Click outside the image to turn off cropping mode.

Using the Crop Page of the Image Dialog


To use the Image dialog, right-click on the image and select Properties from the context menu, then select the
Crop Page of the Image dialog.
The units of measurement shown on the Crop page are those set in Tools → Options → LibreOffice Writer
→ General.

Resizing an Image
To fit an image in the document, its size needs alteration. Quick and easy way of resizing an image is using sizing
handles. Follow given steps:
1.Click on image (select the image) to display sizing handles.
2.Position mouse over one of the sizing handles. Shape of cursor changes.
3.Click and drag mouse pointer to resize.
4.Release mouse button, when satisfactory size is reached

Delete an Image
5.Click on the image to select it.
6.Press Delete key.

Resizing Drawing Object


A drawing object can be resized just like an image. To resize a drawing object, follow given steps:

POSITIONING IMAGE / DRAWINGS IN THE TEXT
When an image is added in the document, it is required to position it. To create a document with text and other
objects of the illustrations Writer provides four settings to control positioning of images / images in the
document:
•Anchoring
•Arrangement
•Alignment
•Text wrapping

To access these settings, use any one of the following methods:


• On Format tab of Menu bar, use Align Text, Anchor, Wrap and Arrange for images and drawing objects).
• For Images - Type tab and Wrap tab of image dialog box.
• For Drawing objects - Position and Size tab of Position and Size dialog box. Position and size dialog box can
be accessed using Context menu

Creating Drawing Objects
A drawing object is created in the document, it can be modified
to suit the requirement(s) using Drawing Object Properties
Toolbar. Properties for a drawing object can be set before it's
drawn.

DRAWING OBJECTS
Writer provides various Drawing tools. These tools are drawing objects using simple predefined shapes such as
rectangle, circle, etc., and also complex drawings. It is recommended to first draw module from the simple
drawing from Draw module can easily be included in Writer document.
• Drawing toolbar is generally not visible on screen. To display it on screen, use any one of the following ways:
• Click on View → Toolbars → Drawing on Menu bar.
• Click on Show Draw Functions icon on the Standard toolbar.
