What is a Computer?
• A computer is an electronic machine that
takes in information (input), processes it, and
gives out results (output).

• Uses:
• - Writing documents
• - Learning and research
• - Playing games and music
• - Communicating
Parts of a Computer
• 1. Monitor
• 2. Keyboard
• 3. Mouse
• 4. CPU
• 5. Speakers
Monitor
• The monitor shows text, pictures, and videos.
Keyboard
• The keyboard is used for typing letters,
numbers, and symbols.
Mouse
• The mouse helps to move and click on things
on the screen.
CPU
• The CPU is the brain of the computer that
processes information.
Speakers
• Speakers produce sound from the computer.
Hardware vs Software
• Hardware: Parts you can touch (Monitor,
Keyboard, Mouse, CPU, Speakers)

• Software: Programs inside the computer


(Word, Games, Browser)
Turning On a Computer
• 1. Connect power
• 2. Press power button
• 3. Wait for desktop screen
Turning Off a Computer
• 1. Click Start Menu
• 2. Select Shut Down
• 3. Wait until it goes off

Playing Educational Games
• • Games help children learn letters, numbers,

Basic Rules of Caring for
Computers
