Codestin Search App

Pursuant to our Privacy Policy and subject to applicable law, Vimeo will produce user information when we believe in good faith that we're legally required to do so. The purpose of these guidelines is to provide an overview for law enforcement officers, government agencies, and court officials on the requirements for submitting a request to Vimeo for user data.

Submission Guidelines

Vimeo does not reveal personally identifiable information or data about our users or their videos without one of the following:

  • A subpoena seeking basic subscriber records as defined under 18 U.S.C. Section 2703(c)(2).

  • A search warrant issued under the relevant Federal Rules of Criminal Procedure or state equivalent.

  • A court order that is appropriate to the nature of the matter and accurately describes the requested data.

Essential Elements

Vimeo does not require any particular format for a law enforcement request, but the subpoena or court order should, at a minimum:

  • Provide the name, title, and contact details of the responsible law enforcement officer, a description of the issuing authority, and a return email address issued from a law enforcement agency domain.

  • Identify the Vimeo user or videos for which data is being sought by providing either the URL at which they can be found (vimeo.com/user####### or vimeo.com/#######) or the email address used to register the account.

  • Specify with sufficient particularity the information being sought and how that information relates to an active investigation. Vague or overbroad requests will result in significant delays.

Available Data

In most cases, Vimeo is able to provide the following, if applicable:

  • Account information including user ID number, screen name, email address(es) associated with an account, account registration date, and account termination date (if any).

  • IP logs, including the IP addresses from which a particular user accessed their Vimeo account or uploaded a particular video including time-stamp with the date.

  • Payment information for purchases (assuming any have been made) including date, time, and product type, and billing address. If the Vimeo user is set up to receive payments, we can also provide information related to payout methods, such as their PayPal email address.

  • Video content.

International Requests

Vimeo.com, Inc. is based in the United States of America. Law enforcement organizations from outside the United States may need to submit a Mutual Legal Assistance Treaty (MLAT) request or letter rogatory through the proper legal authorities in their own country in order to obtain any user data. Vimeo reserves the right to review these requests on a case-by-case basis. German authorities may contact Vimeo through the means described here.

Preservation Requests

Vimeo will preserve account records for up to 90 days upon receipt of a valid preservation request. The preservation request can be submitted through the same channels as the information request and needs to be issued in accordance with applicable law.

  • Online: Submit your request via the Kodex portalCodestin Search App

  • Offline: Vimeo.com, Inc. ℅ CT Corporation System 330 N. Brand Blvd., Ste 700 Glendale, CA 91203

(Receipt of a data request using any of these submission methods is meant to facilitate the ease of requests. It is not a waiver of any objections, including lack of jurisdiction or proper service.)

User Notification

Unless prevented from doing so by law or at our discretion if we determine that the facts and circumstances of the situation require non-disclosure, Vimeo reserves the right to notify users when their account is the subject of any subpoena or law enforcement inquiry. Note that Vimeo also reserves the right to disable any account or content we determine to be in violation of our Terms of Service or Acceptable Use Community Guidelines.

Emergency Requests

If the nature of the underlying matter is time-sensitive or involves the imminent risk of harm to an individual, law enforcement agencies should describe the exigent circumstances in the body of their request. If submitting your request online, provide this information in the “Emergency” section of the submission form in the Kodex portalCodestin Search App. Vimeo reserves the right to review these requests on a case-by-case basis.
