The lion is a symbol of courage and magnanimity and corresponds to the motto "Ultra montem fortitudo". The three-peaked mountain represents Mount Royal and is emblematic of the city's name meaning 'passed the mountain'. The fleur-de-lys is symbolic of French origins, and the maple leaf indicates that Outremont is located in Canada. The mural crown is emblematic of civic administration.
