  1. Match abadonedpublished at 16:44 BST

    And that's that.

The TV cameras cut to the umpires and captain meeting in an nice, dry, indoor location and the two players shake hands to conclude the game.

The two sides take a point each, which leaves Pakistan on the brink of elimination and puts New Zealand level with India on four points as the two sides vie for qualification.

We'll be back for tomorrow for India v England at Indore (10:30 BST) where the forecast is, honestly, far better.

    See you then.

  2. Postpublished at 16:33 BST

The latest - five Pakistan players are taking a stroll round the pitch, using two large parasols as umbrellas.

Not the sort of weather, I'd suggest, that is conducive to imminent resumption.

  3. Postpublished at 15:57 BST

More covers have come onto the ground, it's close to being completely covered.

I think we're now at a stage where we're simply waiting for notice for abandonment.

Perhaps we have been for some time.

  4. Postpublished at 15:33 BST

Just to give you an indication of how things are going - the TV cameras cut to a group of the New Zealand team's family and friends and one of the party was deeply engrossed in a cross stitch project.

  5. Postpublished at 15:13 BST

    Right, it's all going on.

We didn't get a resumption time, but have heard news that the match is shortened to 36 overs a side, with a 10-minute interval,

But that doesn't really matter because it's started raining again and the covers are being brought back on.

  6. Postpublished at 14:50 BST

Here's the latest from your plastic sheeting correspondent.

The covers are now off the square and one of the run-ups for an inspection.

No word of any resumption time yet.

  7. Postpublished at 14:23 BST

    Nothing to report, I'm afraid.

The covers remain on in Colombo.

  8. rain stops play

Rain stops playpublished at 25 overs

    Pak 92-5

    Oh dear.

The covers are coming back on in Colombo at the end of Eden Carson's over.

We've got another rain delay, I'm afraid - we'll wait to see if this one's terminal.

  9. Pakistan wickets tumbling post-delaypublished at 20 overs

    Pak 80-5

Pakistan's fortunes haven't improved since the rain delay - two more batters have headed back to the dressing room.

Natalia Parvaiz survived a dropping catch at slip off the bowling of Melie Kerr, but five balls later she holed out to Sophie Devine at long-on off the bowling of Eden Carson, scoring 10 off 22 deliveries.

New batter Fatima Sana immediately looked troubled by Kerr, and fell for a four-ball two.

New Zealand well on top, and a lot of Pakistan's hopes now rest with Aliya Riaz, who has 23 from 36 balls. She's joined by Sidra Nawaz, who has faced one delivery without scoring.

  10. Pak 61-3published at 15 overs

    Aliya 13, Natalia 5

A first sight of spin for New Zealand as Melie Kerr takes the 14th over.

Three singles come from her six deliveries, before Natalia Parvaiz takes the same number of runs from the first ball of Lea Tahuhu's over, thanks to a massive Rosemary Mair overthrow.

  11. Players head out to the middlepublished at 13:06 BST

Right then, the players are heading back out to the middle after just over 90 minutes off the field.

Aliya Riaz resumes on 11 from 17 deliveries - she's joined by Natalia Parvaiz after Sidra Amin was dismissed from the last ball before the pause.

  12. Play to resume at 13:05 BSTpublished at 12:54 BST

    Play, we'll have play!

The rain has relented and we'll be getting back on in just over 10 minutes.

It'll now be a 46-over match, with one bowler allowed to bowl 10 overs and four others limited to a maximum of nine.

  13. Postpublished at 12:37 BST

Just a tiny, potentially positive update - a few covers are being peeled off in Colombo, presumably so the umpires can complete an inspection.

The line from the governing body is that we'll get our next update at 13:00 BST.

  14. Postpublished at 12:21 BST

Nothing to update you with, I'm afraid.

The covers are still on in Colombo and there's no sign of activity from the umpires.

    Our wait continues...

  15. Postpublished at 11:58 BST

It's not looking great at the moment out in Colombo.

Virtually the whole ground in now covered in blue plastic sheeting - unfortunately a familiar sight at this tournament.

  16. rain stops play

Sidra falls prior to covers coming onpublished at 12.2 overs

    Pak 52-3

Guess what - it's raining in Colombo...

New Zealand snuck in another wicket before the covers came on, with Sidra Amin cutting to Eden Carson at point to gift Lea Tahuhu her second wicket.

She walked off with nine from 16 deliveries, and the two teams followed her as the umpires called on the ground staff.

Hopefully we'll get back on, but this ground hasn't had the greatest record in this tournament...

  17. Pak 39-2published at 10 overs

    Sidra 3, Aliya 6

    Definitely New Zealand's powerplay.

Aliya Riaz gets a four from her third ball, driving to the cover boundary off Jess Kerr, but can't score off Lea Tahuhu's maiden.

Sophie Devine comes on to bowl the last over before the fielders go back, with Pakistan's batters taking four runs from it.

  18. New Zealand remove both Pakistan openerspublished at 7.1 overs

    Pak 30-2

'The finger goes up!' - Tahuhu dismisses Sohail lbw for three

Pakistan are already up against it, with both openers dismissed in the space of four balls.

Lea Tahuhu removed Omaima Sohail lbw in her first over, ending a difficult innings for 28-year-old, who scored three from 15 balls.

Muneeba Ali followed her to the dressing room shortly afterwards, pulling Jess Kerr's delivery to mid-wicket where Suzie Bates took a smart diving catch to her lift.

Having started strongly, Muneeba departs for 22 from 26 balls, with Sidra Amin and Aliya Riaz now at the crease.

  19. Pak 26-0published at 5 overs

Gaze unable to get low in time to catch outside edge from Muneeba

A steady start for Pakistan, with Muneeba Ali taking fours off the first and last balls of seamer Rosemary Mair's first over.

Muneeba was then almost dismissed at the other end, with wicketkeeper Izzy Gaze failing to take an edge just above the ground off the bowling of Jess Kerr.

Mair sent down a maiden to Omaima Sohail with her second over, but Muneeba again took her for a couple of boundaries from her third, through backward square and then driving through the covers.
