Highlights: Portadown v Linfield

Portadown produced a strong second half showing to record an impressive 2-0 win over Irish Premiership champions Linfield at Shamrock Park.

Defender Baris Altintop headed home from a Steven McCullough corner 10 minutes after the interval.

The impressive James Teelan doubled the home side's advantage with 18 minutes left when he finished off a swift counter-attack.

The defeat means Linfield, who were playing their first league game for three weeks due to weather-affected postponements and international call-ups, miss the chance to close the gap on the sides above them in the table.

It also represents Portadown's first home win over Linfield since February 2016.

Linfield made a blistering start, forcing a corner inside the opening 30 seconds. Kirk Millar's short corner was played to Ethan McGee, who took a touch before his shot was blocked by Aaron McCarey.

The experienced keeper made a similar stop from Kieran Offord before, at the other end, Ben Wylie set up Rayhaan Tulloch, who took a touch before shooting which allowed Chris Johns to block with his legs.

Linfield lost skipper Jamie Mulgrew to an early injury while Portadown missed another glorious chance when Tulloch and Eamon Fyfe combined to set up Teelan, whose shot beat Johns but was cleared off the line by Mulgrew's replacement Josh Archer.

Offord was proving a livewire in the Linfield attack and he collected Millar's clever through ball on the right side of the penalty area but while his shot beat McCarey, it fizzed wide of the far post as well.

Portadown had another opening just before the interval when Altintop's header from Fyfe's corner flew over the crossbar.

The clear-cut chances continued to come after the break as Lewis MacKinnon arrived unmarked to meet McCullough's free-kick, but he could only volley wide of the mark.

But it was another defender who broke the deadlock on 55 minutes as McCullough's in-swinging delivery from a corner was powerfully headed home at the back post by Altintop.

The home side delivered another devastating blow on the counter-attack with on 72 minutes when Tulloch broke quickly and his through ball deflected kindly into the path of the in-rushing Teelan to poke home.

The win takes Portadown to 15 points with only goal difference keeping them in the bottom half of the table.
