England escape with a point as match against Pakistan is rained off

The look on the face of Pakistan captain Fatima Sana says it all.

Her side were very unfortunate today. England got away with it and you can read all about it in Ffion Wynne's match report from Colombo or scroll down for the best clips and reaction.

Thursday's match is between Australia and Bangladesh. England's next match is on Sunday against India.

Remember England's fortune when Heather Knight was deemed not out against Bangladesh. They could have lost that game too without the TV umpire decision going in their favour.

England captain Nat Sciver-Brunt: "Pakistan bowled brilliantly. Diana Baig and Fatima Sana made it really hard for us to get into the game at all.

"Em Arlott and Charlie Dean then batted really well to give us a chance but we weren't good enough today and we will hold our hands up. The conditions had also changed a lot by the time the ball was in our hands.

"Adapting as quickly as possible was important. The wicket was seaming a lot so we needed to put in plans to nullify that threat. Picking up wickets as well stopped us getting a partnership at all."

On England's form with the bat: "Everyone is practicing well and working themselves out but it is about putting that into practice in games. The nets are different to a real match. You have to find your own individual way.

"We are going to a different ground now so we will have to assess conditions there. Doing that quickly is really important and picking out the tools we all have."

  4. 'Showed we can beat them'published at 17:39 BST 15 October

Pakistan captain Fatima Sana: "Obviously today showed we can beat them but it was not in our favour.

"They [her team] are very aware of the conditions. We knew this pitch is good for the pacers. I saw a lot of performances before on this track so knew this pitch was good for fast bowlers so tried to bowl on a good length. It would be good if we won the match.

"Muneeba [Ali] and Omaina [Sohail] played really well. The conditions suited because it was wet. In the last two matches [against Australia and England] we did well in bowling. We need to do better on the batting side."

The form and stickability of England's line-up, Nat Sciver-Brunt and Heather Knight aside, is becoming a problem. They played India next, then Australia and New Zealand. After that would come the semi-finals.

England may have got away with a point but today raises a lot of questions about how well placed they are to really challenge in this tournament.

They capitulated against some quality bowling. Tammy Beaumont left one that hit off stump, Amy Jones was bowled by a nip-backer and after Nat Sciver-Brunt and Heather Knight followed in the same over the middle order wilted.

That point means England stay top of the table, level on seven points with Australia.

Pakistan, denied their first victory over England in ODIs, are bottom.

England get away with it. A gut punch for Pakistan.

The match has now officially been called off.

    Both sides take a point.

I am lucky enough to visit Sri Lanka next month and was advised by my agent not to travel this month due to the rain. Don’t the planners take the weather forecast into consideration?

This is nothing for England to celebrate. Get out of jail free will be an understatement.

Can’t see this ground taking more water. Gutted for Pakistan, they deserved to win. England have been completely out played. Have to be batting changes for the next game.

We haven't got a precise time but I reckon we need to be back on by around 17:45 BST as a rough guide.

A team that batted this badly (and haven't bowled much better) could get away with a point...

Fatima Sana looks absolutely devastated. She has her head in her hands and her shoulders hunched over.

Pakistan missed their chance against Australia and this was another opportunity to beat one of the best teams in the world.

Pakistan captain Fatima Sana looks utterly crestfallen. There's still a bit of time but not a lot. All of the covers are coming on.

  18. Pak 34-0published at 6.4 overs

It's raining quite heavily. Groundstaff are looming.

We need to get 20 overs into this innings (or for Pakistan reach their target) for it to constitute a game.

  19. Pak 34-0published at 6.1 overs

One ball into my stint and it's raining again.

    Someone is punishing me today.

    Target 113 (DLS)

Charlie Dean into the attack and she so nearly bowls Muneeba Ali round her legs - twice!

The Pakistan left-hander is getting a long way across her stumps and the England off-spinner is millimetres away from hitting leg stump.

Maiden over to end the powerplay - and with that, it's time to bring in Matthew Henry. What a treat for him to be able to cover some actual cricket.
