    That's it for today, folks.

What was for so long a frustrating day as the rain came down so relentlessly, becomes a very satisfying one for South Africa.

You can read all about their fourth World Cup win on the spin here.

Sri Lanka, denied by the rain themselves in their last game, might well be wishing the rain had just kept falling this time.

Anyway, we'll be back tomorrow for New Zealand against Pakistan as the Women's World Cup continues.

Before that, we'll be here for the start of England men's T20 series in New Zealand. Be sure to join us for those two!

Job done for South Africa then. Four straight wins in this World Cup after their nightmare opening against England.

Tazmin Brits sealed this one in style as well...

  3. 'Very relieved to get a game in'published at 18:37 BST 17 October

Player of the match, South Africa captain Laura Wolvaardt: "Very relieved that we got a game in in the end. It was a very frustrating day."

On the chase: "We just said 'it's a normal T20 game', we wanted to get ahead of the rate as soon as we could. We didn't want another close game."

On the conditions after the rain delay: "The ball was a bar of soap when we were fielding but the ball did come on quite nicely when we batted. [The rain delay] worked out quite nicely for us."

Tazmin Brits finishes it in emphatic fashion!

The right-hander skips down and clubs the ball over cow corner for six to seal a 10-wicket win for South Africa - and take her to a half-century as well.

Job done for the Proteas and they move up to second in the table.

Wolvaardt reaches half-century with four as 'ominous' South Africa close in on win

Laura Wolvaardt goes to 50 from 41 balls with a consecutive boundaries off Kavisha Dilhari.

The first of them is the classic cover drive, elegant as ever and into the gap at extra.

That's followed up by a big slog-sweep. Less like the Wolvaardt we're used to seeing but into the gap again.

And as Tazmin Brits hammers two boundaries down the ground to end the over, South Africa are closing in - just 25 more needed.

Sri Lanka have not had the rub of the green in the number of matches that have been rained off or curtailed. Hard to know where they would stand if they had had the chance to play 50 over matches.

  7. SA 68-0published at 10 overs

    Target 121 (DLS)

Still no breakthrough for Sri Lanka and it is surely a matter of when, rather than if, South Africa win this game.

Laura Wolvaardt is still going strong, hitting a trademark cover drive beautifully for four, while Tazmin Brits - though still struggling a tad - shows her power again with a thumping shot back over the bowler's head.

She survived aa review for lbw the ball before after being hit on the back leg by Kavisha Dilhari's off spinner. It was close but only clipping leg stump - umpire's call and it stays not out.

Sri Lanka need wickets. Plenty of them. And quickly.

    The Proteas are cruising here.

The required rate is down to under a run-a-ball already with Tazmin Brits flexing her muscles to hammer the ball back over Inoka Ranaweera's head for six in the fifth over.

Even with just four from Chamari Athapaththu's over, they remain in complete control.

  9. SA 23-0published at 3 overs

    Target 121 (DLS)

Strong start for South Africa with Laura Wolvaardt getting quickly into her stride.

After powering a couple of boundaries over mid-on, the Proteas skipper gets a bit of luck with a thick edge down to deep third for four more off Sugandika Dasanayaka.

Sri Lanka need to get a grip of this situation before the game gets away from them completely.

  11. South Africa need 121 to winpublished at 17:21 BST 17 October

South Africa's target has been confirmed.

The numbers bods have done their thing with DLS and the outcome is the Proteas will need 121 to win.

They'll fancy their chances but it gives Sri Lanka something a tad more substantial to defend.

South Africa will be delighted by how the last two overs of the innings have gone.

After Nadine de Klerk kept Sri Lanka to just three from the 19th, there are three wickets in the final over.

Nonkululeko Mlaba takes two of them, including Vishmi Gunaratne caught behind for 34 from the last ball of the innings.

The left-arm spinner had Nilakshi de Silva caught in the deep a few balls earlier with Anushka Sanjeewani run out coming back for two from the penultimate ball.

We'll wait to see what the Proteas' DLS-adjusted target will be.

  13. SL 98-4published at 18 overs

Back-to-back boundaries for Vishmi Gunaratne to end the 18th over.

She had been tied down, playing out four dots, by Nonkululeko Mlaba but gets lucky as she charges and gets an outside edge that runs away fine.

The next is a much more convincing shot, moving across her stumps to enable her to get the sweep well behind square for four more.

Two overs left for Sri Lanka to try and get themselves up towards 120.

'No real timing on the drive' - Wolvaardt takes comfortable catch at cover to dismiss Dilhari

Well, for the first couple of overs back it was very sloppy from South Africa but with Sri Lanka having to really go for it, they've come back with a couple of quick wickets.

Nadine de Klerk removed Kavisha Dilhari - caught at cover for 14 - to end the 14th over before Harshitha Samarawickrama top-edged a pull shot off Nonkululeko Mlaba and was caught at mid-wicket next ball.

Samarawickrama was dropped in the previous over, a bad drop from Masabata Klaas off de Klerk, and there was a run out chance in there as well.

Good news for Sri Lanka is Vishmi Gunaratne, who retired hurt earlier, is back out there and heaves the ball down the ground for four to end the 15th.

Here come Harshitha Samarawickrama and Kavisha Dilhari for Sri Lanka.

South Africa follow not far behind, they're in a fantastic position. It's Sri Lanka with it all to do.

Before they resume then, a quick reminder of the key moments before the rain arrived.

Sri Lanka had started steadily enough before Vishmi Gunaratne was hit by a shy at the stumps and had to retire hurt.

Soon after, South Africa seamer Masabata Klaas bowled Hasini Perera with a beauty and then trapped Sri Lanka skipper Chamari Athapaththu lbw.

The Proteas were on top and will hope to press home that advantage when they get back out...

Confirmation! We are going to get a game.

Play will resume at 16:40 BST and it'll be a 20 overs a side contest.

A reminder Sri Lanka are 46-2 so will have eight overs of their innings remaining.

  19. Postpublished at 16:23 BST 17 October

OK, the captains have just been handed pieces of paper by the umpires.

Presumably the new playing conditions - timings, overs, powerplays etc - that definitely looks a positive development.

  20. Postpublished at 16:21 BST 17 October

This is going to be a huge anti-climax if the umpires decide that the playing area isn't in a fit state to restart the match in time.

Players from both sides are out warming up, the rain has completely stopped and if they had, say, another hour to get it ready, things would be absolutely fine.

It might still be but we're still waiting to find out.
