Dorothy K. Prizzia OBITUARY

Dorothy K. Prizzia, 95, passed away peacefully on October 10, 2025, at Mountain Valley Manor in Kingston, NY. Born on August 15, 1930, in Hamptonburgh, NY, Dorothy was the daughter of the late Grant and Irene Kirkpatrick. She was raised in a large, loving family on a thriving dairy farm in Washingtonville, NY. After graduating from Washingtonville High School, she went on to earn a bachelor’s degree in education from SUNY New Paltz. Following her graduation, Dorothy married the love of her life, John J. Prizzia. The couple settled in Marlboro, NY, where they raised their family and shared 58 wonderful years together. While primarily a devoted homemaker, Dorothy also worked as a substitute teacher in the Marlboro School District. Dorothy had a passion for travel. She and John explored the world together, and later in life, she enjoyed trips closer to home with the Marlboro/Milton seniors. An avid golfer, she was a lifelong member of the Powelton Club in Newburgh, NY. She cherished her winters at her beloved condo in Naples, FL, where she created many lasting memories with friends and family. She never passed up a good game of Bingo or Shuffleboard and dedicated many years volunteering at St. Luke’s Hospital in Newburgh. Dorothy was most joyful when surrounded by her loved ones. A true people person, she was known for her warm smile and ability to strike up a conversation with anyone, anywhere, on any topic. To meet Dorothy was to gain a friend. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and aunt, and she will be deeply missed.

She was predeceased by her beloved husband, John, who passed away on July 6, 2013; her brothers, Leroy and William Kirkpatrick; and her sister, Edna Coddington. Dorothy is survived by her sons, John W. Prizzia and his wife Rosalba of Kingston, NY, and Randy T. Prizzia of Marlboro, NY; her former daughter-in-law, Debra Prizzia of Kissimmee, FL; her grandchildren, Joseph Prizzia and his wife Amanda of Marlboro, NY, Sarah Prizzia of Kingston, NY, Jeffrey Prizzia and his wife Kristen of Marlboro, NY, and Allison Strouth and her husband Nicholas of Groveland, FL; and her great-grandchildren, Viviana Prizzia, Hailee Prizzia, and Lucas Prizzia. She is also survived by her sister, Betty Bates of Locust, NC, and her brother, Albert Kirkpatrick and his wife Judy of Bradenton, FL. The Prizzia family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the management and staff of Mountain Valley Manor and Hudson Valley Hospice for their compassionate and dedicated care. The family will receive friends at the funeral home, Thursday, October 16th between 4-7pm. Funeral services will take place on Friday, October 17 at 10am at the funeral home.
