00:00All right, everybody. Thanks for joining us here. We're backstage at Riff Fest. I have the great group, The Hunt, brother-sister duo of Max and Anastasia.
00:09Say hello to all the fine people. Thank you so much for having us. Hi, everybody. Hi.
00:13Now, you guys killed it out there on the festival stage earlier. Thank you. I had a chance to listen to it, and I know everyone, there was a lot of questions asked about you guys, specifically.
00:21Because they hadn't, like, some people hadn't heard about you guys. Okay, yeah. And so I actually answered a bunch of them.
00:25I'm, like, sitting there, like, hey, The Hunt's great. Like, where'd they start? I know you guys started out in, like, was it Florida 10 years ago?
00:31Want to speak a little bit maybe about, like, your guys' musical journey? How did it all start? How'd you get here? That kind of deal.
00:36We just kind of started as a, you know, local band. She was around 9 to 10 when we started doing some open mics and stuff like that.
00:43And then eventually we kind of just, over time, just became, like, a band. We added drums, we added bass.
00:49And, you know, from there, you know, we were writing our own songs a little bit in the beginning, but then it kind of, like, really became what we did.
00:55And organically, over time, just, like, grew into what it is today.
00:59And we changed the name to The Haunt back in 2017. Okay.
01:01Before we went on tour with Pally Royale. Oh, right, right, right, right.
01:04And, yeah. And that's kind of just been going since then. Sure, sure.
01:08Is there, was there a specific inspiration behind the name The Haunt that you want to tell people or no? Kind of just random.
01:14It's kind of just a vibe, right? Yeah. It's like. I feel that.
01:16That's been. Yeah, more of a feeling. Oh, yeah. I see the lipsticks. It's an aura.
01:20You know, come on. Yeah. I mean, the whole, yeah, no, it makes a lot of sense.
01:24Yeah, so it's interesting, too, because not to leapfrog off it too much, but, like, your music is kind of a vibe, too.
01:29It's very popular right now, like, kind of, like, crossing over through genres because, like, you got some rock to it.
01:34I don't want to say it's country, but there's almost, like, country-inspired sounds to it.
01:38Maybe even a little bit of pop.
01:40More wondering, like, is there any, like, specific musical inspirations you guys took that kind of, like, organically turned into your music, what it sounds like today?
01:48Yeah, we were kind of into, you know, different things as kids, and then we found some, like, common ground for music.
01:54Like, as we grew up and stuff, she was very into, like, blues artists and stuff like that.
01:59And I was always kind of just a rock and hip-hop kid, so I was very much into Green Day.
02:07Nine Inch Nails was the first concert I ever went to.
02:09And so those kind of things, I think, had a lot of influence in how we kind of created the initial sound.
02:15That's why we do a lot of kind of electronic industrial crossover with the rock stuff.
02:19We've always loved blues rock, garage rock, White Stripes was a huge inspiration for us, Royal Blood.
02:24And, yeah, it's kind of, you know, we always try to do something different than just a combination of other things, but those are definitely some of our biggest inspirations.
02:32That's awesome.
02:33You know, kind of expanding a little bit just on inspirations in other groups, you know, like, there's been a lot of vans out there that have had, like, either siblings, cousins, family members in it.
02:43I mean, ACDC, Pantera, Van Halen.
02:46Maybe you guys can be in that group one day.
02:47I'm just saying.
02:49Is it, how is it, like, being in a group with your sibling?
02:53Terrible.
02:53Terrible?
02:54On the record?
02:55No, I'm kidding.
02:56It's actually, like, it's one of those things that, like, kind of gives you an extra security blanket of being able to kind of be real and creative because, you know, when you start a band with someone who's not a family member, you know, they're either a stranger or a friend, but someone that can kind of just, like, walk in and out of your life, you know?
03:15And so having someone that you know, like, regardless of how a fight goes or an argument goes or whatever, you can always, you know, always work it out and figure it out.
03:23It's kind of a great place to be.
03:25It allows you to kind of really get into it creatively, you know?
03:30Yeah, cool, cool.
03:31Yeah, no, I mean, I totally believe that.
03:33You know, you're not, you don't have anything to say, like, you know, you hate them secretly or something.
03:36I'm, no, I'll keep my feelings to myself.
03:38No, I'm kidding.
03:38Oh, okay, okay.
03:40No, I figured.
03:41There's love.
03:42So one thing I actually do want to ask is your journey that's still, your tour that's still happening.
03:47Of course, you guys are going to be down in Kentucky tomorrow.
03:50Yes, Louder Than Life.
03:51Louder Than Life.
03:51It's our first major U.S. festival.
03:53Ooh, okay, cool.
03:54Really, really excited about it.
03:56Yeah, we can't wait.
03:57Tell me about, so you guys have a tour, a full set of shows setting up, I think, until the end of, or right before Christmas time.
04:03Exactly, yeah.
04:04Like, tell me about, like, any specific shows you guys are looking forward to.
04:06I know you love them all, but.
04:07We love them all.
04:08Well, I mean, you know, it's really fun to hit certain places where we have a lot of friends and stuff like that.
04:12We have a lot of family in New York.
04:13Okay, cool.
04:13We have a ton of friends in L.A.
04:15Yeah, we in New York are always, I feel like, our faves on the road.
04:21I mean, Chicago was great last time, too, so.
04:23Yeah, I was going to say Chicago, and Boston is also, like, about to sell out, so it's really, really fun.
04:28New York for me, probably.
04:30Yeah, top tier.
04:30Yeah, no, that is a great place to go.
04:32Go get some good food.
04:33Oh, yeah, for sure.
04:35And really, just one more thing, I guess.
04:37I'm curious what you guys got planned next, like, music-wise, more tours.
04:42I mean, yeah, tell me a little bit.
04:43Yeah, so, I mean, we don't plan on stopping touring anytime soon.
04:45We have this headline run from October till December, and then we are already in the studio
04:53working on the next record.
04:54Okay.
04:55And we're super excited about how that's going, and we can't wait to share new music with
04:59you guys, hopefully, by the end of this year.
05:01All right, we'll be waiting for it.
05:03Yeah.
05:03Okay?
05:03All right, thanks for joining us.
05:04Oh, sorry.
05:05I said, or sooner.
05:06Or sooner.
05:07Oh, you're that sooner, possibly.
05:09Thanks for joining me, Anastasia.
05:10Thank you so much for having us.
05:11Thanks for being at RiffFest.
05:13I'm so excited to be here.
