About Euda Wine

Euda comes from eudaimonia, a Greek word meaning human flourishing or living well. For Aristotle, it described a life lived with purpose, balance, and intention.

That idea is the foundation of Euda Wine.

Why did you create Euda Wine?

Euda Wine grew out of a desire to build something meaningful alongside full, busy lives. We wanted to make thoughtful wine, share it with our community, and create a space that feels welcoming and grounded.

Euda is not about chasing trends or building something flashy. It is about doing good work, staying connected to people, and creating room for enjoyment in everyday life.

Who runs Euda Wine?

Euda Wine is run by husband and wife team Michael and Abi McGeary.

Michael began his career in restaurants and earned his sommelier certification before discovering winemaking through harvest work in Napa Valley. That first harvest led to others around the world, including New Zealand, South Africa, Chile, and Switzerland. He later earned his MSc in Viticulture and Enology at HES-SO Changins in Switzerland and worked as a winemaker and vineyard manager in Virginia and Maryland.

Alongside running Euda, Michael works full time as the Technical Sales Representative for Enartis, covering the Southeast and helping producers make better fermented beverages, including wine, cider, spirits, and other fermentation-driven products.

Abi comes from a background in social work and therapy and currently works full time as a therapist. She brings a people-first perspective to Euda Wine and is closely involved in events, operations, and tasting. Her love of cooking and attention to detail play a key role in quality control and final decisions on the wines.

How does Euda fit into your life?

Euda Wine is built alongside our careers and our family. We are parents to our son, Parish, and we run Euda with the understanding that life is full and balance matters.

That perspective shapes how we approach the winery. Thoughtfully, intentionally, and with care for the people who make it possible.

Why Old Fort, North Carolina?

We moved to Old Fort in 2022 to build Euda Wine deliberately. Western North Carolina offered a strong sense of community, access to incredible outdoor spaces, and a growing food and drink culture. It felt like the right place to put down roots and create something lasting.

What kind of place is Euda Wine meant to be?

Euda is meant to feel relaxed and approachable, more wine bar than formal tasting room. We care deeply about quality, but we believe wine is best enjoyed without intimidation, shared with friends, family, and neighbors.

If you are curious about how we approach winemaking and why we make the choices we do, you can read more on our Our Philosophy page.

What People Are Saying

I’m so thrilled to see Euda Wine open again. We first visited shortly before the storm and in the moments of that dreadful day this was one of the first places we worried about. Michael is a delight and loved chatting with him. I told him I’m not sure what’s better, the smell or the taste of the wines. So bright and so unique! It’s refreshing to taste something unique nowadays. Highly recommend.

We went out of our way to come here a second time! I love the carbonic rose. Update: Came back a year post-Helene, and I'm happy to report that euda is still doing great. Sarah took care of us very well. We are also wine club members (highly recommend!) and the cabernet franc is a new favorite.
