What do you like best about Stripe Connect?

Stripe Connect offers a clear, purpose-built framework for handling marketplace and platform payment flows. The architecture supports connected accounts with different integration depths, from fully branded custom accounts to lighter, hosted standards.

I value its native models for routing funds, including direct charges, destination charges, and separate charges with transfers. These patterns align with common marketplace scenarios and reduce the need for custom payment logic.

Onboarding flows are mature and handle KYC, identity verification, and sanctions checks without having to manage these processes in-house. The hosted experience is streamlined and automatically adjusts to local compliance requirements.

The payout features are flexible, with options for scheduled payouts, instant payouts to bank accounts, delayed disbursement windows, and multi-currency support. Global payment method coverage is broad, with support for cards, wallets, bank debits, and locally preferred methods in multiple regions.

Operationally, the dashboard and reporting tools are practical for managing balances, reconciling transactions, and configuring payout timing per connected account. The documentation is detailed, with marketplace-specific examples and guidance for each payment flow type.

While Stripe Connect offers a robust API and a range of features for managing payments, the functionality is only as good as the support backing it up. In theory, it's great for scaling payment processing, but this is overshadowed by the severe risks involved. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Stripe Connect?

Stripe Connect has proven to be a nightmare for recovering funds, with unhelpful support and no clear resolution process. Stripe Connect’s support is extremely unhelpful and unreliable, particularly when it comes to resolving serious issues like fraud. Despite following all required steps and receiving guidance from multiple banks, Stripe refused to assist in recovering $5,152.25 that was fraudulently taken. Their refusal to follow standard procedures and provide necessary documentation to recover the funds leaves customers like me in a precarious position. Stripe simply took money from our account without providing any meaningful assistance in recovering it. The most significant downside of using Stripe Connect is the complete lack of accountability and support when something goes wrong. If you’re relying on Stripe to manage critical payments, beware: their failure to follow basic recovery procedures means you could lose significant funds with no recourse. I strongly recommend looking into other alternatives, such as Banking-as-a-Service (BaaS) solutions, where you can have more confidence in the support and processes to protect your business.
