Who is Lewis Capaldi?

Lewis Capaldi was a runner up for the 2019 BRITs Critics Choice prize but went on to become the Official Chart's biggest breakthrough star of the year and a social media phenomenon. Following the BRITs Critics Choice announcement Lewis quickly picked up two coinciding Top 40 singles with Grace and Someone You Loved - the latter song becoming his first Number 1 in the UK.

As well as winning the internet over with his Scottish wit, the singer/songwriter's debut album, Divinely Uninspired To A Hellish Extent, went on to become the biggest album of 2019 and best-selling album of 2020 too, as confirmed by the Official Charts Company, while chart-topping breakthrough single Someone You Loved clinched the title of the biggest song of 2019.

In November 2022, as the Official Singles Chart celebrated its 70th anniversary, Lewis was crowned 'king of streaming' as Official Charts announced that Someone You Loved had overtaken Ed Sheeran's Shape Of You to become the UK's most streamed song of all time.

Following a hiatus, Lewis returned in summer 2025 with a surprise Glastonbury performance and scored the biggest opening week of his career so far with new single Survive which he debuted at the festival.
