PINK PONY CLUB
by CHAPPELL ROAN
Come to the Pink Pony Club with Chappell Roan, an epic synth-pop track charting its artist's road to her own emancipation.
Originally released in 2020 by Atlantic Records, Pink Pony Club was Chappell's first track collaborating with producer Dan Nigro (Olivia Rodrigo, Sky Ferreira) was written from her own experience moving from the Midwest to LA and discovering the city's gay clubbing scene (especially the West Hollywood staple The Abbey), although the song itself tells the story of a girl who becomes a go-go dancer at such a club, despite her mother's wishes.
An inspired take on the 'road trip' genre of pop song, Pink Pony Club was acclaimed upon release, but didn't experience any commercial success, and its underperformance was a factor in Chappell's dropping from Atlantic.
However, the song got it dues nearly half a decade later; it was included on the tracklist of Chappell's debut album The Rise and Fall of a Midwest Princess, and experienced a surge in popularity following its performance on an episode of Saturday Night Live, and during Chappell's big night at the 2025 Grammy Awards, where she won Best New Artist.
True pop justice in action - and proof that you cannot give up on your dream or artistic vision, ever - Pink Pony Club entered the Top 10 of the Official Singles Chart for the first time ever at Number 4 on February 14 2025, before ascending to Number 1 (just under five years since its original release), marking Chappell's first UK chart-topper, and the ultimate vindication for her place in the pop world.
In April 2025, Official Charts announced that Pink Pony Club was one of the UK's biggest songs of 2025 so far.
