🏏 Marylebone Cricket Club hosts global Cricket Bat Conference at Lord’s to tackle willow shortage and rising costs As cricket’s growth fuels unprecedented bat demand, MCC convened the first-ever Cricket Bat Conference at Lord’s — uniting manufacturers, suppliers, innovators, and global stakeholders to address what many are calling a “cricket bat emergency.” With English willow supplies under strain and costs surging, MCC and ICC leaders discussed: 🌳 Sustainable solutions — including laminated willow and alternative materials. ⚖️ Preserving balance between bat and ball performance. 🔬 Research collaboration across sports like golf and hurling. ♻️ Rethinking manufacturing to reduce waste and environmental impact. IPL valuation declines for the second straight year — gaming crackdown and media consolidation reshape cricket’s economics. For the first time in its history, the Indian Premier League’s valuation has dropped two years in a row — from ₹92,500 cr (2023) to ₹82,700 cr (2024) to ₹76,100 cr (2025), according to D&P Advisory’s Beyond 22 Yards report. 🏏 Key drivers behind the ₹16,400 cr ($1.9 billion) fall: Real-money gaming ban: RMG ads once contributed ₹1,500–2,000 cr annually. Media consolidation: Disney Star + Viacom18 merger ended auction-fuelled rights inflation. Category vacuum: RMG exits leave sponsorship gaps yet to be filled by FMCG, BFSI, and EV brands. 💬 Santosh N., D&P Managing Partner: “Fantasy and gaming platforms had become the IPL’s most aggressive advertiser cohort… The ban constrained the monetisation outlook.” The Women’s Premier League saw a 5.6% dip but remains in consolidation, not contraction.
