Create and manage your Insight Tag

Last updated: 3 weeks ago

The LinkedIn Insight Tag is a piece of lightweight JavaScript code that you can add to your website to enable features like tracking conversions, creating website retargeting audiences, and enabling in-depth reporting.

If you haven’t set up your Insight Tag, you’ll need to create it in Campaign Manager, add it to your website, and confirm that it’s active. Then you can manage features for your tag, such as sharing across accounts and enabling enhanced conversion tracking.

Step 1: Create your Insight Tag in Campaign Manager

To create a new Insight Tag:

  1. Go to your ad account in Campaign Manager.

  2. Click Data on the left menu, then click Signals manager.

  3. Scroll to the Sources catalog section and click Insight Tag.

    Here's a tip

You may see a recommendation at the top of your Signals Manager page to create an Insight Tag. If you see this recommendation, you can click Create Insight Tag.

Your Insight Tag has now been created and is ready to be added to your website.

Step 2: Add your Insight Tag to your website

Once you’ve created your Insight Tag, you can now add it to your website. Your Insight Tag will be generated with a unique partner ID. The full Insight Tag can be installed on your website by yourself or with a developer, or you can use the partner ID with a tag management system.

Step 3: Confirm that your Insight Tag is active

After you set up your Insight Tag, confirm that it’s receiving signal from your website by checking the source status.

Step 4: Manage your Insight Tag settings

Once you’ve installed your Insight Tag on your site and confirmed that it’s active, you can manage additional Insight Tag features on your Signals Manager page. To manage the Insight Tag associated with your account:

  1. Go to your ad account in Campaign Manager.

  2. Click Data on the left menu, then click Signals manager.

  3. In the Sources section, click Insight Tag.

  4. Click the Manage Insight Tag dropdown to update the following about your Insight Tag:

    Here's a tip

If you use a site-wide image pixel to track conversions, you’ll need to switch the code on your website to the Insight Tag to enable first-party cookies. If first-party cookies aren’t enabled, conversion tracking accuracy may be reduced.

  5. You can also review each section to find information about your Insight Tag, including:

    • Data connection information section - See your Insight Tag status and connection date.
    • Insight Tag conversions section - Review the conversions based on your Insight Tag.
    • Choose how to install your tag section - Find technical information about your tag, such as your tag’s Javascript code by clicking I will install the tag myself and your partner ID by clicking I will use a tag manager.
  6. Make any changes, then click Done.

Important to know

Consistent with our terms, the Insight Tag should not be installed on web pages that collect or contain Sensitive Data. This can include pages offering specific health-related or financial services or products to consumers.

For example, depending on the content of the pages, the Insight Tag may be included on a generic homepage for a pharmacy or a bank, or business-to-business pages directed only to organizations and financial or healthcare professionals, but should not be included on consumer pages for certain types of medications or pages where users manage their financial accounts and transactions or medical appointments, since it could lead to the inadvertent collection and sharing of sensitive information regarding the health or finances of individuals who visited that page.

This does not constitute legal advice. Please consult with your webmaster and legal counsel to determine which pages may or may not collect sensitive data.
