Ostriches are a species of large flightless birds that appear in the Super Mario franchise, such as the Donkey Kong Country series and Mario Kart World.

History[edit]

Donkey Kong franchise[edit]

Main article: Expresso

In the Donkey Kong Country series, an ostrich named Expresso appears as one of the Animal Friends that the Kongs can ride on to glide over certain distances.

Donkey Kong Bananza[edit]

A species of ostriches appears in Donkey Kong Bananza, and is depicted to be more anthropomorphic and work as employees for the Eggshell Hotel, residing in the Forest Layer.

Mario Teaches Typing 2[edit]

In Mario Teaches Typing 2, an ostrich appears if the O key is pressed in the Mario's Magic Keyboard mode.

Mario Kart World[edit]

In Mario Kart World, ostriches are found in Faraway Oasis and the savanna region that the track surrounds. Ostriches run across the track and will cause racers to crash if driven into.

A mission in Mario Kart World Join the endurance race in the savanna! Faraway Oasis 20.00 The player must complete three laps around a road near Faraway Oasis in the time limit, with other racers participating, Item Boxes scattered throughout, and ostriches as obstacles. Each lap has five rings that each add 4 seconds to the timer when driven through, while the one marking the end of the lap adds 10 seconds to the timer. A sticker from Mario Kart World
