Cinema: Mercy (2026)
A tense run-against-the-clock thriller. It caught my eye because Rebecca Ferguson is in it, I really liked her in Silo. Also stars Chris Pratt and a multitude of interesting looking not very well known actors. Good enough for me!
Tickets on Mondays are £5.75 (you don't need the flexi fee):
Book your own ticket:

If I'm early enough I want to go to the Collab bar around the corner, their Signature Brew beers are delicious. They do food too.

✨ NEW Sci-Fi Series: Wool by Hugh Howey (Silo Series Book 1) 🔦🏙️📚
**[Wool](https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/13453029-wool-omnibus) by Hugh Howey (576 pages)**
**Genre:** Science Fiction • Dystopian • Post-Apocalyptic
**Summary:**
In a future where the world outside is deadly and toxic, humanity survives deep underground in a massive silo. Every rule is meant to protect the people—but also to keep them silent. When one woman dares to ask questions and uncover the truth, the walls of this fragile society begin to crack.
Wool is a haunting, slow-burn dystopia told across **five interconnected novellas**, each peeling back another layer of the mystery. It’s the story that inspired the hit Apple TV+ series Silo—a gripping blend of secrecy, survival, and human resilience in a world that feels all too possible.

All Out of Bubblegum Film Club 128 / Scott Pilgrim vs. the World
Scott Pilgrim vs. the World is a 2010 romantic action comedy film directed by Edgar Wright, and written by Wright and Michael Bacall, based on the graphic novel series Scott Pilgrim by Bryan Lee O'Malley. It stars Michael Cera as Scott Pilgrim, a slacker musician who is trying to win a competition to get a record deal, while also battling the seven evil exes of his new girlfriend Ramona Flowers, played by Mary Elizabeth Winstead. The ensemble cast also features Kieran Culkin, Chris Evans, Anna Kendrick, Alison Pill, Brandon Routh, and Jason Schwartzman. It received positive reviews from critics, who noted its visual style and humor, and was a box-office failure, though it has garnered a cult following. The film made several top ten lists and received several awards and nominations. In scholarly analysis, it has been widely discussed as a transmedia narrative.
Please note we will not be showing the film at the meeting. Make sure you watch the film before you attend and then come and join in with the conversation. It’s just a discussion. It’s not a screening. 🙏
We will be meeting in The Ludski Bar in the Rio Cinema.

C is for… Cartoon Museum (Late night)
**Join us at the monthly late night opening at the Cartoon Museum**
The Cartoon Museum is dedicated to preserving the best of British cartoons, caricatures, comics and animation.
The museum houses a collection of over 6000 original cartoons and comics, and a library of over 8000 comics and books, documenting the history of British comics from the 18th century to the present day.
Main exhibition - [The Future Was Then](https://www.cartoonmuseum.org/whats-on-exhibitions/the-future-was-then)
This Autumn, The Cartoon Museum looks to the future – and the past – to explore comics that went beyond the final frontier and predicted what humanity would look like in years to come.
Will the Daleks invade in the year 2150? Did the space travel of Dan Dare or the dystopia of V for Vendetta come true in the 1990s? What will our future look like?
Take a journey through time and space and answer these questions and more!

Make New Friends At A Bookshop
Do you want to meet new people in a relaxing chill atmosphere surrounded by new books? Do you dislike loud and smelly places like pubs and clubs? This is the event for you.
Science and Philosophy Book Club is creating a new kind of meetup where people who love books and knowledge can meet new friends in a big book shop. We will explore around different sections of the book shop together as a group while making interesting conversations with each other. We will go to both fiction and non-fiction areas.
If you feel shy and feel nervous to come alone, I will make sure you will feel comfortable and accomodate to your needs. I will help introduce you to others so you can go over the barrier of anxiety when approaching a new person.
We will meet on the ground floor lounge area of Doubletree Hilton Hotel at 6 p.m. It is an amazing cosy bar with classy vibes. We will wait for everyone to show up while getting some drinks and socializing. At 7 p.m we will head to the Waterstones book store near Russel Square and UCL. After we explore the book store, we will come back to the hotel bar and stay there for the rest of the night.
This event requires £5 donation to cover the venue fees. You can pay via cash or card. Thank you for helping the book club!

AnimanJapan Anime & Manga Club!
If you love anime & manga then please join us for our weekly meetups, where we basically just sit, chat and read anime & manga!
We usually sit in the back of the pub. If the weather is nice we may sit outside at the back of the pub, or even outside on the downstairs floor.
In this meetup, you can BYOM (bring your own manga) or read one from the selection we will bring. See this as an opportunity to discover, recommend or simply enjoy Japanese comics & anime with like-minded people!
Note: This is not a book club.
Also, the TCR bar is kind enough to allow us to use their space to host this meetup, and has asked if possible for attendees to support the venue by purchasing a drink or food while you're there. Please don't bring your own food or drink to consume at the venue, as the venue does not allow this!

Book Club: En’hittification, why everything suddenly got worse...
**En’hittification: Why Everything Suddenly Got Worse and What To Do About It**
by Cory Doctorow
https://www.kobo.com/gb/en/ebook/enshittification-4
(also available via Spotify premium)
Misogyny, conspiratorialism, surveillance, manipulation, fraud, and AI slop are drowning the internet. For the monopolists who dominate online - X, TikTok, Amazon, Meta, Apple - this is all part of the playbook. The process is what leading tech critic Cory Doctorow has dubbed en'hittification. First, the platform attracts users with some bait, such as free access; then the activity is monetized, bringing in the business customers and degrading the user experience; then, once everyone is trapped and competitors eradicated, the platform wrings out all the value and transfers it to their executives and shareholders.
