Today, Rolling Stone announced the appointment of Sean Woods and Shirley Halperin as its new Co-Editors-in-Chief. Woods, Rolling Stone’s longtime Executive Editor, steps into the role effective immediately and will continue to be based in New York. Halperin, a veteran music journalist and former Co-Editor-in-Chief of The Hollywood Reporter, will assume her new position on September 1, serving as both Co-Editor-in-Chief and Head of Music, and splitting her time between New York and Los Angeles. Halperin’s appointment makes history as she becomes Rolling Stone’s first female Editor-in-Chief in its nearly 60-year legacy. Together, they will work closely with Rolling Stone CEO Julian Holguin to shape the editorial direction of one of the world’s most iconic media brands.

“Sean and Shirley are unmatched in their expertise and passion for storytelling, and their partnership will play a pivotal role in shaping Rolling Stone’s future,” said Holguin. “Both bring exceptional vision and a deep understanding of the brand’s legacy. Their leadership will continue to drive the world-class journalism and culture-shaping conversations that Rolling Stone’s audience has come to expect.”

Sean Woods has been a cornerstone of Rolling Stone’s editorial operation for over 20 years, most recently serving as Executive Editor. During his tenure, he has overseen award-winning investigations and feature stories that have earned three National Magazine Awards, two George Polk Awards, and numerous other accolades, including GLAAD, DART, and LA Press Club Awards. Woods also collaborated with teams that earned an Emmy nomination. Prior to his role at Rolling Stone, he was a contributing editor at Men's Journal, where his "Last Word" column featured interviews with Anthony Bourdain, Mel Brooks, and Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, among others.

Rolling Stone is embarking on an exciting new era,” Woods said. “Julian and Shirley bring a lot of fresh ideas, passion, and energy. We are going to be trying different formats and approaches — while sticking to our core principles of in-depth reporting, breaking news, gripping feature writing, and sharp cultural criticism.”

Shirley Halperin brings more than two decades of experience in entertainment and music journalism to Rolling Stone. She has held leadership roles at Variety, Billboard, The Hollywood Reporter, and Los Angeles Magazine, where she helped spearhead initiatives such as Variety’s Hitmakers event and Billboard’s annual No. 1s franchises. Halperin’s work has earned numerous Los Angeles Press Club awards, and she is the author of three books. Most recently, she served as Co-Editor-in-Chief of The Hollywood Reporter, where she played a key role in shaping its music coverage.

“I’m very proud — personally and professionally — to help usher in the next era of the world’s most formidable music brand as its first female Editor-in-Chief,” said Halperin. “And to share the title and work shoulder-to-shoulder with Sean Woods, who has steered Rolling Stone’s editorial and fortified its place as a leader in journalism over the last two decades, is an added honor. I’m excited to see Julian’s vision for Rolling Stone come to life and to continue this legacy brand’s culture-shifting, conversation-sparking, music-loving ethos in a new media landscape that’s ripe for innovation and disruption.”

The appointments of Woods and Halperin underscore Rolling Stone’s commitment to delivering exceptional journalism across music, culture, politics, and beyond. As part of its broader strategy for growth and innovation, Rolling Stone will also be recruiting a Global Sales and Partnerships leader, in addition to a Strategy and Operations leader, who will help strengthen the company’s capabilities and expand its reach across an increasingly dynamic media landscape.

New York, NY, July 28, 2025— Today, Fairchild Media Group (FMG), home to the fashion and beauty industry’s most trusted media resources, Women’s Wear Daily (WWD), Footwear News (FN), Beauty Inc, and Sourcing Journal (SJ), announces key milestones in its digital and experiential transformation, including the re-platforming of FN onto the WWD digital platform and the growth of its global live events portfolio, all as WWD celebrates its 115th anniversary this year.

In Q2, in a move designed to more efficiently provide its authoritative industry news to a growing audience of both global executives and consumers, FMG re-platformed Footwear News (FN) onto the WWD digital platform. In May, the combined reach of WWD, Beauty Inc, and FN hit 8.9 million monthly unique visitors, according to ComScore. Building on this success, the group plans to re-platform Sourcing Journal later this year to create a singular destination for the industry’s most trusted and coveted business and consumer content.

“By bringing the power of WWD, FN and Beauty Inc content together on one platform, we are better able to serve both the designers and industry leaders and the rapidly growing number of fashion and beauty consumers who turn to our brands for accurate news and the unmatched access they've come to expect," said Amanda Smith, Chief Executive Officer, Fairchild Media Group. “And as we celebrate WWD's 115th anniversary and Footwear News's 80th, this is a testament to the legacy and vitality of our brands. We are more excited than ever to continue to innovate and deliver the content and global live events that drive the industry forward.”

The digital move is complemented by the growth of FMG’s renowned live programming across the quarter. Marquee events, like the WWD Beauty CEO Summit and the FN 80th anniversary celebration drew top industry leaders, while FMG expanded its experiential strategy with the launch of the WWD Culture Club, a new editorially led franchise spotlighting the intersection of business, culture, and creativity in major fashion cities around the world, kicking off in London in May. Earlier in the year, FMG solidified its authority in connecting to its growing consumer audience with WWD’s first red-carpet livestream from the Golden Globes and the Style Awards, garnering a total 8 billion media and press impressions.

Globally, FMG hosted a high-profile Fashion & Beauty Summit in Riyadh and will launch a new edition of WWD in Thailand this summer, underscoring the group’s commitment to serving emerging fashion and beauty markets around the world.

Fairchild has also expanded its editorial reach, building on WWD’s authoritative coverage with new consumer-facing touchpoints such as WWD Weekend. Recent covers featuring Anne Hathaway, Ana de Armas, and Damson Idris are resonating with the growing audience among luxury consumers who come to the brand for its authority in fashion, beauty, and culture.

“Fairchild Media Group’s heritage is built on trusted brands like WWD and FN, but our future is about innovation and connection,” added James Fallon, Chief Content Officer, WWD and Fairchild Media Group. “With new franchises, a unified platform strategy, and the historic milestone of WWD’s 115th anniversary, we’re excited to keep evolving with the industries we cover.”

Today, South by Southwest® (SXSW®) unveiled its new 2026 vision: bringing music, film & TV, and innovation programming together for seven concurrent days in downtown Austin, while honoring four decades of creative discovery and connection that has defined the event.

March 12-18, 2026, SXSW will run all programming simultaneously for the first time, creating deeper opportunities for the creative exchange between industries that has been SXSW's signature since 1987. The Music Festival expands to seven nights, and SXSW Interactive becomes SXSW Innovation, a change that reflects the broader scope of industries that now call SXSW home. SXSW EDU will run March 9-12, with March 12 as a full crossover day between the events.

The transformation comes as downtown Austin itself evolves, with the Austin Convention Center undergoing major redevelopment. SXSW 2026 will expand throughout the city center, creating themed neighborhoods that give each creative community a dedicated space while expanding the spontaneous encounters that have launched careers and sparked creative and business collaborations each year.

“The next four years present an incredible opportunity for SXSW,” said Jenny Connelly, Director in Charge of SXSW. “With the Austin Convention Center under construction, we’ve embraced the chance to reimagine the event and explore new, exciting possibilities. Our creative community is eager for impactful, immersive experiences, and we’re thrilled to bring them to life across Austin this March.”

"SXSW is a meeting place for creatives, and serves as a point of inspiration and meaningful insights that will define how we work, play, and connect, " said Peter Lewis, Chief of Partnerships and Strategy. “We are excited about curating even more touchpoints and pathways for impactful collaboration amongst our partners and the extraordinary SXSW audiences.”Applications are now open for PanelPicker® conference proposals, Music Festival showcasing artists, SXSW Pitch, and SXSW Innovation Awards. Film & TV Festival submissions will open in July.

“SXSW showcases the biggest ideas set to impact the next wave of creativity and innovation across technology, design, film, TV, music, education, and business,” said Greg Rosenbaum, VP of programming for SXSW and co-founder of SXSW EDU. “The voice of the community remains the beating heart of SXSW and the launch of our applications is an open call to participate in our programming process.”

The reimagined SXSW 2026 creates badge-specific neighborhoods throughout downtown Austin, supporting focused engagement and exploration:

  • Music Festival & Conference badges access showcases and music industry programming.
  • Film & TV Festival & Conference badges unlock screening venues and industry sessions.
  • Innovation badges provide access to tech & innovation programming and community spaces.
  • Platinum badges offer complete access to all three creative communities.

All badges include access to keynotes, featured sessions, exhibitions, and citywide experiences.

The concurrent format and community homebases deliver to attendees a way to experience the full spectrum of SXSW, but also experience the distinct identity and depth each community values. The evolution from “interactive” to “innovation” acknowledges the growth of SXSW’s technology programming  beyond its 1990s digital roots to encompass healthcare advancements, sustainable business practices, marketing evolution, and startup culture across industries.

Additionally, the Music Festival’s expansion to seven consecutive nights creates additional showcase opportunities. For the past several years, SXSW Music has focused on curating more opportunities for participating acts, audiences and industry to connect with each other. The festival will maintain a similar venue footprint to recent years while optimizing the experience for artist development, industry and fans.

"SXSW Music is leveling up in 2026 and beyond," said Brian Hobbs, VP of Music Festival Programming. "Seven nights of showcases means more opportunities for artists to get their moment, and for music lovers to experience breakthrough performances throughout the event."

Today, SXSW also unveiled the first glimpse of its 2026 key art, created in partnership with Austin-based design firm Overstory and Taiwanese-American illustrator Josh Cochran. The vibrant illustration depicts diverse creatives gathering in Austin's reimagined downtown landscape, embodying the festival's "All Together Now" spirit.

The likes of Sir Elton John and his husband and manager David Furnish, afrobeats superstar Tems and EMPIRE founder and CEO Ghazi Shami were recognised with awards.

Among the night’s highlights:

  • Sir Elton John and his husband and manager David Furnish were honored with the first-ever Creators’ Champion Award for their leadership in defending artists’ rights. The award recognizes their outspoken advocacy for legislation that would require tech companies to disclose and license the music used to train AI models.
  • Ghazi Shami, founder and CEO of San Francisco-based EMPIRE, received the prestigious Clive Davis Visionary Award, which celebrates bold leadership and innovation in the music industry. Selected by Billboard’s editorial team, the award is named after the legendary executive Clive Davis.
  • Billboard presented the Diamond Award, a recognition of excellence and influence in African music, to Nigerian star Tems, who tonight, June 5th, headlines Billboard Presents The Stage as part of SXSW London. Billboard hosts The Stage at SXSW Austin for three nights each year, featuring big-name headliners across genres. Launching the series in London marks a significant milestone for Billboard as it expands its global celebration of talent.
  • As part of the Diamond Award celebration, Billboard announced the launch of Billboard Africa, further expanding its global presence. Africa and its diaspora have long been the birthplace of musical innovation, influencing genres worldwide. This launch celebrates that legacy and creates a dedicated platform to spotlight the continent’s powerful and evolving sound.

Honored with the Creators’ Champion Award, Elton John said Thank you to Billboard for honouring myself and David Furnish with the Creators’ Champion Award. Supporting the next generation of British artists is one of the major driving forces in my life. As everyone in that room was aware, the Data Bill is currently looming over our industries and the future livelihood of all artists. It is an existential issue.

Let’s be clear - we want to work with the government. We are not anti A.I. We are not anti Big Tech. We are not against Labour. We want a solution that brings all parties together in a way that’s transparent, fair and allows artists to maintain control of their work.

We will not let The Government forget their promise to support our creative industries. We will not back down and we will not quietly go away. This is just the beginning.

Thank you Billboard. And thank you Baroness Kidron and The House of Lords for standing up for our world-beating artists, journalists, playwrights, designers and authors.”

After receiving the Diamond Award, Tems shared her thoughts, saying “Thank you so much to Billboard. I am honoured to be here. African music is moving to heights it has never been before, and Billboard is one of those key players in moving that needle forward in Africa.”

On receiving the Clive Davis Visionary Award, Ghazi Shami said This means a lot to me…It’s all too surreal, and all I would say is never lose sight of how it all started, and for me, it all started with the music.”

Billboard CEO Mike Van commented Thank you for welcoming us here to London. What you're experiencing tonight is the first step into how Billboard is expanding globally.

Billboard Editor In Chief Hannah Karp added “This is the first time that we have gathered all of our global power players in one room to celebrate their leadership, and we thank you all so much for coming.”

For years, Billboard’s Global Power Players list has recognized the international executives shaping the music business beyond the U.S., while its Power 100 event in Los Angeles has celebrated domestic leadership. Now, with Billboard’s rapidly expanding global footprint - spanning 16 international editions in more than 10 languages - the 2025 Global Power Players were welcomed to London for an evening of networking, recognition, and celebration of global music excellence.

Today, CBS and Dick Clark Productions announced that Award-winning, Rock and Roll Hall of Fame®️ Inductee and philanthropist Janet Jackson will receive the prestigious ICON Award at the “2025 American Music Awards,” an honor bestowed upon an artist whose music has had undeniable cultural and global influence over the music industry. The global phenomenon and 11-time American Music Award-winner, will also take to the stage, marking her first television performance since 2018. This year’s American Music Awards will kick off summer with host Jennifer Lopez live from the all-new luxury resort, Fontainebleau Las Vegas, on Memorial Day, Monday, May 26. Promising to be a night of unforgettable performances, including from Lopez herself, the 51st AMAs will air live coast to coast at 8:00 PM ET / 5:00 PM PT on the CBS Television Network, and stream on Paramount+ in the U.S.*  Tickets to the star-studded show are available now on Ticketmaster.

Celebrating 50 years in the music industry, Jackson is still making an impact including the recent viral craze on social media of her Billboard 100 high-energy dance track “Someone To Call My Lover” that catapulted the song back on the Billboard charts, nearly 24 years after its original release, reaching #3 on the R&B Digital Songs chart and achieving a 1,400% gain in year-to-date U.S. on-demand streams for the hit according to Luminate. “Someone to Call My Lover” originally debuted at #3 and was the second single from her chart-topping, seventh studio album, “All For You.”

She’s also set to kick off yet another leg of her wildly popular Las Vegas residency, JANET JACKSON: LAS VEGAS, returning to the Resorts World Theatre stage on May 21, 2025 for a six-show run through May 31, 2025.

Janet Jackson is one of the most influential entertainers of the modern era. Her music has won her 5 GRAMMY® Awards, 2 Emmy Awards, a Golden Globe Award, a nomination for an Academy Award along with dozens of American Music Awards, MTV Video Music Awards and Billboard Music Awards. She has received accolades as an actress as well including the NAACP Best Supporting Actor award. Janet is a published author, dancer, businessperson, philanthropist and one of biggest-selling artists in popular music history. With sales of over 180 million records worldwide, Janet Jackson stands as one of the best-selling artists of all time with a string of hits that have left an indelible impression on pop culture. She is the record holder for the biggest selling debut tour in history and is the first woman to debut in the top 10 of the Hot 100 chart. She also stands as one of only four artists to have a #1 album on the Billboard 200 in the 1980s, '90s, '00s and '10s — alongside Bruce Springsteen, Barbra Streisand and U2. Even today she continues to make an undeniable impact. In 2018, her last single, “Made for Now” with Daddy Yankee, released by her own Rhythm Nation Records, hit #1 on Billboard’s Dance Club Songs chart making it her 20th single on the chart in the span of her career. In 2019, she was inducted the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame alongside her brothers and in that same year her critically acclaimed Las Vegas residency, “Metamorphosis” closed out to record breaking ticket sales with only 18 dates at the Park MGM’s Park Theater. As reported by Billboard Boxscore, the legendary singer, dancer, songwriter, producer, and actress was among the biggest Vegas performers of the 2010s, ahead of Celine Dion (2011), Britney Spears (2013) and the Backstreet Boys (2017). Her critically acclaimed and award winning documentary “Janet Jackson.” brought in over 20 million viewers in one week.

On February 4, 2021, Janet Jackson’s iconic mega platinum-selling third album Control turned 35. The album also returned to the top of the charts, hitting #1 on the Apple Top 40 US Pop Album chart. Led by five chart-busting hit singles — “What Have You Done for Me Lately,” “Nasty,” “Control,” “When I Think Of You,” —with their complementary, tightly choreographed music videos — and “Let’s Wait Awhile,” Control became Jackson’s first No. 1 Pop album.  The album also made Billboard chart history as the first by a woman to yield five top 10-charting singles on the Billboard Hot 100. To date, Control has sold more than 10 million copies worldwide. She followed Control with Janet Jackson's Rhythm Nation 1814, which is, as of May 2025, the only album to generate seven top five-charting songs on the Billboard Hot 100. She went even further with her next album, janet., as it tallied six more top 10-charting songs on the Hot 100. In turn, she became the first artist to notch five or more top 10s on the Billboard Hot 100 from three different albums.

In 2023, her highly successful “Together Again” tour became the icon’s highest grossing trek of her career which featured 36 sold out shows and received rave reviews from fans and press. Okayplayer said “Janet has still got it, serving as our beloved sex symbol, superstar, and Queen of Pop that no one has come close to emulating.” The Chicago Tribune confirmed, “Being a performer, a showstopper, a true delight is not just what Janet Jackson does. It is who she is.” And the Boston Globe claimed, “Jackson is a killer live act.”

In December 2024, Jackson launched her exclusive residency, JANET JACKSON: LAS VEGAS, at Resorts World Theatre at Resorts World Las Vegas to sold-out crowds over New Year's Week. The critically-acclaimed production is packed with the electric high-energy and chart-topping iconic hits like "Control," "All For You," and "Together Again," along with deep cuts from her decades-long career, complemented by dazzling wardrobe moments fashioned by Thom Browne. Following her performance at the American Music Awards, Jackson will return to the Resorts World Theatre stage for three performances on May 28, 30 & 31, 2025. Tickets for all performances are on sale now.

Fan voting for the “2025 American Music Awards” is now open via VoteAMAs.com and the @AMAs Instagram profile in all award categories.
