The British Broadcasting Corporation is a public service broadcaster that is primarily funded by an annual television licence fee paid by all British households, companies and organisations that watch live television or BBC iPlayer. It was originally established in 1922 as the British Broadcasting Company but it received its current name five years later. Nicknamed ‘the Beeb’, the broadcasting service offers a portfolio of national television channels for adults and children as well as regional shows across England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland. It also offers radio networks, its on-demand service BBC iPlayer, BBC World Service, and digital offerings which include BBC News, Sport, Weather, CBBC, CBeebies and BBC Sounds.
