Dame Cressida Dick, born in 1960, is a British former police officer who served as commissioner of the Metropolitan Police from 2017 to 2022. She was the first female and openly homosexual officer to lead the Met. While commended by some for her work in counter-terrorism and community policing, her career was marked with controversy, particularly concerning the Met's use of stop-and-search tactics and the police’s handling of a candlelight vigil for Sarah Everard, a woman murdered by a serving officer. She resigned in 2022 after losing the confidence of Sadiq Khan, the London mayor, who expressed concerns over sexism, racism and corruption in the police force.
