Jeremy Hunt is the chancellor of the exchequer for the Conservative government. He studied philosophy, politics and economics at Oxford. Hunt’s political career began in 2005 when he was elected to represent South West Surrey. He became culture secretary in 2010 - overseeing the 2012 Olympic Games - and health secretary between 2012 and 2018. Hunt has tried and failed twice to become prime minister. He was made chancellor in 2022 by Liz Truss following Kwasi Kwarteng’s resignation, and retained the role after Rishi Sunak succeeded her as prime minister.
