Za posledných sto rokov katolícka ekleziológia prešla značnou premenou. Na začiatku dvadsiateho s... more Za posledných sto rokov katolícka ekleziológia prešla značnou premenou. Na začiatku dvadsiateho storočia bola skoro výlučne zameraná na inštitucionálnu stránku cirkvi. Cirkev sa chápala ako spoločnosť nerovných (societas inequalium). Veľa energie sa vynaložilo na to, ako sa má taká spoločnosť spravovať, hlavne, ako v nej má fungovať autorita. V tridsiatych rokoch dvadsiateho storočia teológovia z hnutia ressourcement začali znovu objavovať duchovné, sakramentálne a liturgické dimenzie cirkvi, ktoré majú silnú oporu v svätom Písme, v dielach cirkevných otcov a teológov raného stredoveku. Prispelo to k väčšej vyváženosti v chápaní cirkvi. Druhý vatikánsky koncil odobril túto "novú" orientáciu ekleziológie a spôsobil v nej posun. Hoci chápanie cirkvi ako inštitúcie nezmizlo, stratilo však prevahu, ktorú malo počas posledných storočí. Do popredia sa dostali pohľady, ktoré prízvukovali, že cirkev je tajomstvom viery: cirkev ako sviatosť, putujúci Boží ľud a spoločenstvo (communio). Obnova v ekleziológii sa koncilom neskončila, ale pokračovala ďalej. Prispeli do nej nielen teológovia, ale aj pápeži. Ján Pavol II. a Benedikt XVI. sa zaslúžili hlavne o rozvoj communio ekleziológie. Aj súčasný pápež František prispieva do rozvoja teológie cirkvi. Františkovo chápanie cirkvi by sa dalo označiť rôznymi metaforami alebo prirovnaniami. V tomto článku sa zameriam na obraz cirkvi ako domova. Je to obraz, ktorý sa prirodzene ponúka skrze Františkove ekleziologické priority ako milosrdenstvo, odpustenie, otvorenosť, inklúzia a starostlivosť o tých najmenších. Cirkev ako domov tak dáva Františkovej ekleziológii soteriologický rozmer, teda rozmer, ktorý sa týka spásy.

It focuses renewed attention on the reception of the Second Vatican Council. This article discusses how synodality gives new life to two aspects of the council's ecclesiological vision, namely, the church as the people of God and the theology of the local church. They played a major role early in the council's reception but were later sidelined. Synodality now brings them back to the center of attention.

They both reflect on human existence. The former investigates what it means to be human in light of God's revelation. The latter reflects on how communities of believers ought to live out their call to be the disciples of Jesus. Despite this overlap, theological anthropology became a meaningful dialogue partner of ecclesiology only in the twentieth century. The reason for this is understandable in light of the historical development of Catholic ecclesiology. 1 From the inception of formal ecclesiological writings in the fourteenth century, the context of crisis was a key determining factor of both the content and style of Catholic ecclesiology. 2 First, it was the conflict over the relationship of the temporal and spiritual powers, then the conflict over the role and authority of the council vis-à-vis the pope. Soon after it was the crisis produced by the Protestant Reformation, and then came the Enlightenment and Modernity. As a result, ecclesiology came to focus on the institutional dimension of the church, particularly on articulations of its authority. 3 While the juridical and legalistic approaches to ecclesiology never denied that the church is fundamentally a group of people, their emphasis on the institutional and hierarchical dimensions of the church saw little if any need at all for theologians to attend comprehensively to the actual people who make the church and to the process of ecclesiogenesis. Komonchak to the ongoing debate over the proper interpretation of Vatican II. The article is organized around three issues of the conciliar hermeneutics which Komonchak has addressed: (1) the responsibility of the council for the collapse of pre-Vatican II Catholicism; (2) the continuity and discon-tinuity of Vatican II with the tradition of the church; and (3) the dynamics between the «letter» and the «spirit» of the council. The author argues that Komonchak's alternative middle position with regard to the hermeneutics of the council is not constructed on the theological data alone, but is also a result of his engagement with the social sciences.

PRECIS This essay discusses Roger Haight's contribution to method in ecclesiology and some of its... more PRECIS This essay discusses Roger Haight's contribution to method in ecclesiology and some of its implications for ecumenical dialogue. The underlying premise is that ecumenical-dialogue partners need to approach the dividing ecclesiological issues with some kind of common method in ecclesiology. Elements in Haight's ecclesiolog-ical method such as historical consciousness, globalization, pluralism, the principle of functionality, and the notion of the church as simultaneously a historical and theological reality are credited with a potential to shed light on the direction of ecumenical conversations. It is argued that in two areas-the nature of Christian unity, and ecclesial structures and ministries-the ecumenical dialogue might benefit from Haight's vision of method in ecclesiology.

Since the mid-1980s, the "spirit of Vatican II" has been an embattled concept in discussions pert... more Since the mid-1980s, the "spirit of Vatican II" has been an embattled concept in discussions pertaining to the council's reception. After the council, so-called progressive Catholics invoked this term to call for developments in the church that did not have direct support in the documents of Vatican II but which they thought were consistent with its spirit. 1 With the pontificate of John Paul II (1978-2013) and its effort to counteract the centrifugal forces unleashed by the council, the "spirit of Vatican II" came under heavy criticism as a legitimate category for understanding and implementing the council. By the end of Pope Benedict XVI's pontificate, the "spirit of Vatican II" was deemed a persona non grata. Since then, however, it has been revived and-to some extentrehabilitated. 2 This has to do with a new phase of the council's reception inaugurated by Pope Francis.
