Atarashi Ako is a first year at Achiga Girls' School. She is an elementary-school friend of Shizuno and Nodoka Haramura, but went to a different middle school so she could play mahjong. In the Achiga mahjong club, she was the third best player before it disbanded. She is the younger sister of former Achiga mahjong player Atarashi Nozomi.
