Tormenting Sadist is Okita Sougo's guardian spirit. After he tricked Hijikata Toshirou into pouring mayonnaise into Maserati, Sougo was tied up and left deep in the mountains, where he found the darkness within him. Ever since, his "guardian spirit" was stuck in Toshirou's body, sucking up his life force.
