A handshake event is a type of event that gives hardcore fans the chance to meet their favourite entertainers up close in a controlled manner. In those events, fans are able to do things like shaking the entertainers' hands or getting their autographs. This is a part of the publicity circus centring on celebrities of that industry; in Japan, such events are very common, happening often with pop idols, seiyuu, mangaka, among others.
