Caring for the police family
About us
NSW Police Legacy is a strong and compassionate charity that cares for and supports past and present police and their families to ensure that they thrive in times of tragedy and need. Since 1987 NSW Police Legacy has been providing emotional and financial support to the widows, widowers and dependent children of police officers. We don’t discriminate. Regardless of whether the police officer was serving, retired or the circumstances of their death, our obligation is to the partners and children they leave behind – our legatees. NSW Police Legacy is committed to: Supporting all police families who have suffered a loss by providing professional, caring and compassionate services; Providing benefits, services and advocacy to those in our care;0 Recognising the unique role of police, both serving and retired in the community, and the risks associated with the role; and Conducting charitable business in a transparent and ethical manner in the best interest of those with whose care we have been entrusted. NSW Police Legacy: Honors the history and proud traditions of the NSW police force, police and their families, in particular, those who have made the ultimate sacrifice. Takes pride in providing compassionate, continuous and long term support to the people in our care. Embraces the camaraderie and unique bond shared across the police family.

Today is officially Karen Webb’s last day at work in the NSW Police Force. Her career started in the same year that NSW Police Legacy was formed, and we want to take a moment to acknowledge not only her 38 years of policing service, but also the enormous amount of time, effort, energy, and care that she has given the wider Police Family through NSW Police Legacy. She served for many years on our board before becoming our Vice-Patron as Commissioner, where she continued to work behind the scenes to ensure that support for our Police Legatees became even more a part of the culture of the NSW Police Force. On behalf of all our Police Legatees and families, we thank her, and wish her all the very best in the next stage of her life. #nswpolicelegacy #policefamily #thankyou

We are delighted to hear the news that Mr Mal Lanyon will be the next NSW Police Force Commissioner. Mal has been a longtime supporter of NSW Police Legacy, with his hands-on support of the Police Family extending to the Remembrance Bike Ride, Legs for Police Legacy, the Wall to Wall Ride, and the Blue Ribbon Ball. We’re excited to continue working together and we are sure he will thrive in his new role. We also wish outgoing Commissioner Karen Webb all the very best for her future, and thank her for her many years of support of our Police Family 💙 #nswpolicelegacy #policefamily

Oh, you want another inspiring story of courage and determination in your feed? Try this: young Police Legatee Elyssa Pearce recently competed in her first CAPO Powerlifting National Championships in Brisbane, where she took out all the world records in her age/weight class for Squat, Bench, Deadlift, and total of all lifts. ALL. THE. WORLD. RECORDS. (Her heaviest lifts - squat 145kg; bench 84kg; deadlift: 180kg) Elyssa, you’re awesome, and I think you’ve inspired us all to go a little harder towards our goals today 💪💙 #nswpolicelegacy #strengthandcourage

Sensational work from NSW Police Force THWP Officer Tara-Lee over the weekend at the Western Sydney 70.3 Ironman, who not only beat her own goal by 20 minutes, but raised nearly $3,000 for NSW Police Legacy in the process! As a dedicated camp supervisor for the last few years, Tara has seen firsthand the positive impact that our programs have on our young Legatee’s lives, and wanted to provide even more opportunities through her fundraiser. Result! 🏆 #nswpolicelegacy #policefamily

We’re sure you’ve seen a lot of publicity about the NSW Police Force Mounted Unit's incredible 200 year celebration - and rightly so! Here’s one more to add to the list: on the night our Chair Det Supt Donna McCarthy was presented with a cheque for $30,000 to support NSW Police Legacy, but we’ve since been informed that with additional fundraising and donations throughout the evening the total raised by these incredible troopers will be closer to $40,000! Truly the stuff of legends! 🐴💙🙏 #nswpolicelegacy #policefamily

This morning hundreds of motorcyclists gathered at the NSW Police Wall of Remembrance in the Domain to honour the memories of fallen friends and colleagues, for the Wall to Wall Ride for Remembrance. A minute of silence was held for all, with special thought for the tragic loss of Senior Constable Vadim De Waart-Hottart and Detective Leading Senior Constable Neal Thompson of Victoria Police, and Constable Keith Smith of Tasmania Police, whose names will be carried in the Commissioner’s Batons from those states, as riders today come together from all around the country to congregate at the National Police Memorial in Canberra. Representing NSW Police Legacy in the ride today is Police Legatee Will Edwards, who is riding in memory of his father, Sergeant Bradley Edwards. As always, funds raised from the Wall to Wall Ride support Police Legacies all around the country, and we couldn’t be more grateful for the heartfelt, ongoing, and meaningful contribution. #nswpolicelegacy #neverforgotten #policefamily
