You see, some of us called this back in ye earlie '10s, that there was no viable business case for VR to justify Meta's investment - we were of course poo-poo'ed, because if a company the size of Meta wants something to happen, they'll make it happen.

Mais tout a changé en décembre dernier quand j'ai mis la main sur un Pixel 9a à prix cassé. Cette fois, je tente @GrapheneOS.

The Fluke replaced my Master Instruments APO No. 3 analogue multimeter — that they wouldn't let me keep 😢
The Fluke still holds pride of place in the toolbox I was issued in 1976, but it's going to need to be replaced soon.
One of the posts I read while hunting around said "...my granddad gave me the meter before he passed away ..."

I love it when websites will tell you to create a password and their security is worse than your own (my password manager defaults add more values and character types) as knowing the password has to be a certain length and only be alpha numeric it limits the possible values drastically.
This also gives potential hackers an easier time to dictionary attack or brute force the password. What are your personal thoughts on this?

I have a huge folder of music files extracted off an old #Ipod years ago - they're "hidden files" so Apple scrambled their names and order into a series of seemingly random folder and file names, but the metadata is still there.
Does anyone have a recommendation for the best way to automatically organize these files back into a more easily usable form (by artist name, album title, song title, etc.)? I've read of a few programs that might do this but I'm curious if anyone who is #tech saavy might have any particular endorsements.

Aprendí a programar también, para automatizar pruebas, y es un terreno que estoy dispueste a seguir explorando. Tengo siete años de experiencia laboral (tres como tester), tengo estudios (parte universidad, parte cursos, y sigo estudiando). Hablo tres idiomas fluidamente. Creo –no; tengo seguridad de– que estoy súper calificado. Mi CV no dice nada sobre IA.
Desde que volví a buscar trabajo, veo que LinkedIn está inundado con esa maldita palabra, y de imágenes espantosas generadas con esas herramientas. A veces siento que me quedé desactualizade, y que estoy remando contracorriente. Todas las ofertas laborales pidiendo uso de IA. Debería simplemente fingir que soy un fan de esa bazofia, para conseguir un trabajo que pague bien? Hasta qué punto debería fingir algo que no soy? Time to choose the heart for my upcoming home NAS.
I've been eyeing those 12TB-16TB Seagate Exos, but the "Enterprise vs NAS-specific" debate is real. One is a loud tank, the other is a relatively quiet reliable workhorse.
If you were building a 4-bay setup today, what would you trust your data to? Reliability is key, but noise levels are... a thing. I'm thinking about Exos since they're pretty reliable and cheaper.

Obviously the #zeebo flopped, espechally due to #Qualcomm's #BREW #OS ¹ which is basically '#JavaMobile but worse in order to circumvent #SoftwarePatents' whilst also having dogshit performance and being hard to develop for or even port games to, making it even worse than #Gizmondo or #NGage which used #J2ME.
- Making the #OUYA look like a piece of perfection in comparison, because that #cube didn't cost 20x more to port games to but merely demanded the (OUYA-exclusive) #GameController #API (which predates the later #Android-Standardized one!) to be supported, which is closer to a #patch than a #redevelopment!
But even in a starved market like #Brazil most households weren't gonna dump over 1 month minimum wage on an aging #3G-#Cellphone with composite video and 6-button #USB #controllers.
- Also who thought that announcing a price cut before launch was a good idea in a time the "Osbourne Effect" was already well known?
So yeah, blame Qualcomm for this shitshow...
- To add insult to injury, #piracy on it is rampant... and the #PS2 whipped it's ass around town cuz it even as #import #console like the #PlayStation2 could shaft them in spite of #tariffs because by that point #Sony closed their books on that platform and didn't give a fuck about #piracy, only allowing pre-agreed licensees like #EA to still shove out their games for it.
And lets be honest, #Edutainment is not a cash cow because in places like #Mexico it's way easier to get even cheaper #PC|s due to #NAFTA #FreeTrade (i.e. all the stuff #refurbishers couldn't sell in the #USA anymore got offered there before being sold further south...
- Really sad, cuz if the Zeebo was like a €50 box, it could've been a smash hit, so it died due to lack of resources...
Needless to say the Zeebo is the strongest argument for #StopKillingGames as these devices are nearly useless these days and piracy is the only way to get / change games on it and play them these days.
- Also respect to Derek from #SSFF for playing the entire Zeebo catalogue tho there's nothing to ride home about...
Nowadays the nieche of the zeebo is served by cheap #PCs for #gaming even cheaper #Android devices and (aside from few stores like #Steam that managed to upstell a #DRM as a #feature), rampant #piracy to the point that #MobileGaming outside of #iOS is basically dead unless we account #PayToLoose #Shovelware of the "#DisguisedGambingGame" kind as "#Gaming" which is an insult even for #gambling, because there at least in theory, with a honest operator the chance of winning is greater than zero (tho I'd still disrecommend it because no gambling game is *"fair" beyond the theoretical chance of winning by the rules)...

AI-driven reputational harm is real and on the rise.
It's hard to control how AI will summarize or label a person and not so much can be done when serious issue starts. Unregulated AI creates problems and having proper regulation is necessary.
Companies behind AI solutions should be accountable, if their solutions are causing harm to person's reputation.
And for publicly known persons, including celebrities, influencers, entrepreneurs and creators, PR is becoming a must-have, not an optional thing. It's not something be happy about as we are talking about serious harm that can happen to anyone just because of wrong labeling by a machine.
Harmed reputation can be hard to be restored and requires a lot of efforts. The damage caused to the person can't be quickly fixed as it requires continuous work, sensitivity and time.

No one tells you just how much work goes into a small YouTube channel. For me, Terminal Tilt is a labor of love, but it is a massive undertaking:
Research and Writing: This is the largest portion. Not just diving into topics, but finding ones truly worth your time.
Filming and Privacy: I have chosen a "headless" approach (screen-only). It respects my privacy and helps me manage the workload, but it still requires a lot of setup.
Voiceovers: This is the hardest part for me. Managing social anxiety while recording is a constant hurdle, but it is one I am getting better at with every video.
Editing: I am currently spending 8–12 hours per video (since last video). As I learn more techniques, the complexity grows, but so does the quality.
The small Stuff: Learning GIMP for thumbnails and managing promotion. Those little things really do add up.
I am disabled and currently navigating the long road to SSDI approval. My goal is to grow Terminal Tilt into something sustainable, a way to support myself while advocating for ethical, #NoAI, and #deGoogled technology. I am taking this seriously and I am having a lot of fun building this.
