Sometime around the 2020 era, we lost the right to be mediocre at things we love.
No longer can you just bake bread...you must start a sourdough side hustle lol. Wanna stay fit and go jogging or running? Nah, you gotta optimize your biometrics for a marathon. What my point is that every hobby has been enshittified and gentrified into a brand opportunity.
This strange infatuation with optimization culture is killing the human spirit.
So this new year, starting tomorrow, one of my resolutions is to do something bad but fun. Maybe I write a terrible poem. I like to draw and paint, so perhaps I will draw a horse that looks like a table or sing off-key in the showers or in front of my loved ones. The algorithm driving the mainstream social media wants me to be a polished product, but my humanity lives in these messy, unoptimized, cringe-inducing joyful failures.
I will try to reclaim the right to be an amateur. Will you join me?

Sean Martin, CISSP and I kicked off our coverage of The NAMM Show 2026 with a conversation with John Mlynczak, President and CEO of #NAMM, and it set exactly the right tone for what's ahead.
We dug into something I think about constantly—the tension between innovation that serves #creativity and #innovation that just... replaces it.
Here's what I took away:
#AI can speed up your workflow. It can open doors for people who never had access before. But it cannot feel. It cannot mean something. And audiences know the difference, even when they can't articulate it.
The music industry is figuring this out in real time. Products don't win on specs anymore—they win through the #artists who use them, the #stories they carry, the communities that form around them. Sound familiar? It should. It's the same thing happening across every industry trying to navigate this moment.
And then there's #education. The old model—one path fits all—is dead. NAMM is evolving into something more like a learning ecosystem, where formal sessions, hallway conversations, and hands-on discovery all matter equally.
This is just the beginning of our NAMM Show 2026 coverage, and I cannot wait to be there in person. There's something about being surrounded by people who understand that music is ultimately about people—not platforms, not #algorithms, not the latest plugin—that recharges everything.
Technology should amplify humanity, not dilute it. That's the conversation worth having.

My typical way of working involves re-imagining things after I finish them, or in the flow of creating them, such as writing a string part that I may or may not use. It has worked the same with AI. They are extensions or continuations, which can have a life of their own, yet always have a thread to the original. If they start with an AI mockup and I make my own version, you could say AI had the idea and I was the lyricist and arranger yet I get 50% of the credit with the other 50 unclaimed and ultimately owned by adverse possession. #AI #creativity

I got two “extreme-range” guitars: a 7-string and an 8-string.
Now I’m experimenting with re-arranging classic thrash riffs by shifting the entire tuning down, playing 6-string parts on the lower strings to give them a heavier, modern sound.

Yellow-footed Rock-wallaby (Petrogale xanthopus)
The Yellow-footed Rock-wallaby is one of the most brightly coloured of all Australian mammals and is readily identified by its colouring and patterning. It has a thick, grey-coloured coat with a dark mid-dorsal stripe and white cheek, flank and hip stripes. Its chest and belly are light-coloured and its limbs and ears are a rich golden colour. The tail is long, cylindrical, blunt ended, and characteristically banded dark brown and golden-brown.
It is a member of the macropod family (the marsupial family that includes the kangaroos, wallabies, tree-kangaroos, and wallaroos).
Conservation status in NSW: Endangered
Commonwealth status: Vulnerable

Artists have to be more comfortable with shifting the way they look at AI. Most seem to be scared of it because we overestimate its actual usefulness at any given moment. For example, you may use it at some point in the creative process just out of curiosity, and it might produce nothing usable, and you just carry on with what you were doing. To be carried away by AI may mean you never had faith in your own creativity and skill to begin with. #creativity
🎼 #Music 🎶 if it didn't exist our humanity would be very different from what it is now. The same can be said about #art in general and the intrinsic need humans have to create it and enjoy it.
When it comes to music I love to hear it, play it and talk about it so I am grateful I got to spend time with this amazing group of people to discuss the imperfect magic of this incredible art.

As you probably know by now, I love blending #storytelling with #technology, creativity with purpose. But today, I want to share something a bit different — a Halloween story that bridges worlds, languages, and generations.
Halloween over #Florence: The Market of #Ghosts is a magical tale set in my beloved Florence, where Severino — a mysterious child found nine years ago on the steps of the Basilica of San Miniato al Monte — lives among monks, #jazz #music, and ancient mysteries. But on Halloween night, when the full moon rises over the Arno, spirits from around the world gather for their annual meeting at a spectral market that only he can see.
It's a story about wonder, belonging, and the magic that exists just beyond what we think we know. It's for kids who believe in ghosts, and for adults who remember what it felt like to believe.
🧐 and here's another secret: this is the first of a series about Severino. His story is just beginning, and the mysteries hidden in those ancient crypts are waiting to be discovered.
I write and produce this as part of Storie Sotto le Stelle — a creative collaboration with my mother where we bring magical stories to life in Italian and English. It's a family journey that reminds me creativity, when shared, connects generations.
