Ich bin derzeit dabei, sämtliche Bilder und Videos aus den letzten 15 Jahren zu verschlüsseln, um sie anschließend in die Cloud hochzuladen. Insgesamt handelt es sich um 517,3 GB Daten. Die Verschlüsselung erfolgt Ordner für Ordner, was entsprechend viel Zeit in Anspruch nimmt. Zusätzlich wird jede Verschlüsselung manuell auf Fehler überprüft. So sehr ich #Linux liebe, so sehr hasse ich es manchmal.

X11 wird sukzessive mit Wayland ersetzt, wobei dieses "sukzessive" gerade recht schnell geht.
Für den Alltag hab ich damit weniger bis keine Probleme, aber mit der Teleskopsteuerung via RasPi 5 und VNC ist das einfach be💩 .

Wir haben mittlerweile 2026 und einen Remote-Desktop einzurichten ist entweder sehr mühsam (VNC unter X11) eine Wissenschaft (RDP) oder [fast?] unmöglich (VNC unter Wayland) - zumindest für nicht-Systemadmins.

Und so werden weiter vieeeeele Stunden vergehen bis ich das endlich halbwegs brauchbar hinbekomme. 🫩

#Microsoft und USA #cloud ade! Seit jetzt zwei Monaten auf #Linux mit eigener #Nextcloud, und ich muss sagen, ich bin begeistert. Man merkt so extrem, dass die Linux-basierten Betriebssysteme einfach von Usern für User sind. Alles, was mir in 25 Jahren Microsoft auf den Sack ging, ist bei Mint einfach besser oder konfigurierbar. Ich trauere so sehr, dass es Linux Mint nicht schon vor 20 Jahren gab, als ich 15 war. Dann wäre ich nach den zwei Monaten schon Profi, weil ich noch die Zeit gehabt hätte, täglich zehn Stunden zu suchten 😂

My #LinuxMint laptop will no longer turn on the keyboard backlight. I've tried things like 'xset led on' and setting an extra keyboard shortcut for KbdLightOnOff in Keyboard Settings. no luck.

My laptop is old, and maybe the backlight LED is fried. So:

When I started experimenting with #Linux again in 2024, I was very impressed at how mature everything had become since I last tried it in the mid-00s. The biggest surprise, though, was #GNOME. It had a level of intentionality and clarity of vision that far exceeded my expectations of a FLOSS project. It made me feel welcome and comfortable.

Ich brauche PhotoFiltre 7 o.ä. auf Linux. Mit Gimp komme ich nicht zurecht und es scheint auch nicht die Funktion zu haben, die ich brauche (zumindest finde ich sie nicht). Angeblich kann es unter Linux laufen, aber der Download auf der Website startete bei mir nicht. Wie bekomme ich das für Linux? Oder gibt es da was, das nah an Photofiltre 7 dran ist? Bitte nicht irgendwelche Programme, sondern wirklich was, was die selben Funktionen hat.

@uastronomer logrotate already seems to want a specific configuration file on each invocation, so yes, you should be able to just abuse that for this.

With <() in bash you don't even need the configuration file on disk. (Not sure if logrotate is happy to read a configuration file from stdin.)

Is there a tool that will rotate files out for you? I'm thinking like log rotation, but not just for logs.

Like... maybe I have a daily cron job creating some file but I'd like to see what yesterday's file looked like before it got overwritten by today's file. Ideally there would be a tool that will rename the file to file.1 (after renaming file.1 to file.2, and so on). logrotated does this, some backup software does this, but I just want a basic primitive function that stands alone, and that I don't have to hack together in a shell script.

Does this exist?

Could I just abuse logrotate?

Nachdem ich mein #fairphone 4 zum Spielzeug erklärt habe, konnte ich es nun zu einem echten #linux #phone machen, indem ich #ubuntu touch installierte.

Ja, es ist weniger flüssig als #android, die App Auswahl ist übersichtlich und die Fotos sind alles andere als Brilliant - aber alles in allem macht es einen weit weniger schrecklichen Eindruck als ich erwartet habe.

I'm using Kubuntu, and have an interface mystery:

occasionally my interface zooms out and shows me a dashboard of all the open windows. But I cannot detect what I did to get that! My hand's always on the mouse when it happens, but I'm not aware of making any gesture or click! (Pretty sure my OS isn't telepathic … yet).

Q: how do I make this happen, intentionally? Or: what might this feature/action be called, so I can search for an answer?

Wenn die RAM Preise so hoch sind und die Hersteller das auch noch verknappen wollen, dann sollte man einfach die Investitionen verschieben und eben nicht kaufen.

Soll die KI Blase dann bald platzen und die Hersteller an ihrer Gier ersticken.

Gerade Privatleute sind nun leichter Fang für Betrüger. Einfach mit den Füßen abstimmen und eben nichts kaufen und schauen, ob es mit aktueller Hardware geht. Vielleicht auch Windows-Bloat von den Rechnern fegen und zu Linux wechseln.

Seit sieben Tagen läuft nun mein Rechner mit #Linux #Fedora und dem #KDE mit #Wayland. Das Temperaturmanagement der #Nvidia 2070 super läuft besser als unter #Windows 11. Die Auslastung des #RAM lässt mich lächeln. Zocken, Office, Sync…. alles läuft. Ich denke ich gründe ein Aussteigerprogramm und gehe damit allen auf die Nerven. Gibt es Empfehlungen für #Notebooks? Wichtig ist für mich, dass es ein kleiner, leichter Sidekick mit Akkuleistung ist. Gern gebraucht. #IBM bzw. #Lenovo?

Gerade auf meiner Workstation das Update auf Linux Mint 22.3 "Zena" Cinnamon ausgeführt - das erstemal mit Problemen: Das Internet war schlecht, einige Dateien wurden erst beim zweiten Versuch heruntergeladen.

Vielleicht besser, so etwas nicht am Montagmorgen auszuführen - wenn alle mit der Arbeit starten ... 🤭

Aber es hat alles geklappt, der Rechner läuft ... 🙃

Was ich vermisse: - Banking - Routenplanung (geht...ist aber umständlich oder ich bin zu blöd) - Kommunikation unter den Apps geht, ist aber kompliziert (was wiederum heißt, dass mein „normales“ Handy ständig weiß, was ich tue.) Was stört: - tägliche Updates - einfrieren einfach so (zu viel Zoomen mag es nicht) #linux

Ach eine Frage hätte ich noch bezüglich Bottles, bei einigen alten Spielen werden Videos oder auch Hintergrundmusik nicht abgespielt. Kann das sein das die Musikdatein also deren Format zu alt sind oder liegt es an den Bottles Einstellung nur zum Ton und Video finde ich da nichts.
